Amanico's initial impressions of the Cartier Masse Mystérieuse Platinum from Watches and Wonders 2022 offer a rare glimpse into a truly innovative timepiece. His post highlights the watch's unique movement, where the entire mechanism is integrated into the oscillating weight, a design choice that challenges conventional watchmaking. This article synthesizes community reactions, exploring the horological significance and market implications of such a groundbreaking creation.

Just one picture of a very intriguing watch I could see at the Cartier Booth, the Cartier Masse Mystérieuse, in platinum.

It is the first time I see a movement included in a rotor. It is just amazing an surprising:

The case is generous, to say the least, with a diameter of 43, 5 mm and a height of 12, 64 mm. But even if it is made of platinum, it is not that heavy on the wrist.

Cherry on the cake, the ruby on the crown. Not too show off, just another touch of elegance.

Limited to 30 pieces, this horological UFO is really coming from the sky, with a retail price above 200, 000 Euros...

Best,

Nicolas

Love the idea, the disruption but… not a fan of it in terms of esthetic. I will read about it to try to understand how it works because it’s intriguing ! Thanks for your post bro.

Nevertheless, this clearly is one of the highlights, when it comes to innovation.

But the price. What in this watch justifies that price tag? And they have taken the lead of swatch Sistem51 with one center piece holding the entire movement together ! (I joke a little).

It’s interesting. But it’s really more of a gimmick. It may not capture my interest for a very long time. Still. A testament that mankind tries to find more ways of making life more interesting in the name of art.

And the crown is on the right. Who knew!

...still struggling to comprehend the mechanism, which is exactly the point. Price is exceedingly high, but hope this watch will pave the way for other and more accessible iterations based on the same mechanism.
