Bulgari: Berries, two exceptional timepieces embodying the perfect blend of High Jewellery and complicated horology

When High Jewellery inspires Haute Horlogerie, the result is truly dazzling. Renowned for its creative audacity, Bulgari expresses this noble alliance in an exquisitely refined manner by presenting two complicated watches in the new Berries collection. Intense creativity and sophisticated expertise are the hallmarks of this first in the history of the venerable House: two complication models specifically created and stemming from jewellery inspiration combined with superlative mechanical horology.
These two new models are inspired by an exceptional High Jewellery creation. The necklace and matching earrings feature an opulent cascade of colourful pearls, combined with an array of diamond-pavé elements. These High Jewellery masterpieces highlight the Brand’s expertise in creating fascinating chromatic combinations of precious stones in various cuts. The two new releases, Berries Tourbillon Retrograde Hours and Berries Jumping Hours Retrograde Minutes offer a fascinating horological expression of essential brand values such as freshness, colour, magnificence and an inimitably precious signature. The collection’s trademark spherical motif surrounds and highlights the Tourbilllon at 6 o’clock on the first of these two models; and the jumping-hour display appearing at 12 o’clock on the second. In both instances, a precious bouquet of diamonds and colourful stones lights up the horological complication and appears to sweep it away in a luminouswhirlwind. The subtle blend of Fine Watchmaking and High Jewellery is accentuated by white mother-of-pearl dials representing masterpieces of precision and refinement enhanced by gilt appliques forming Arabic numerals and the Bulgari logo.
Berries Tourbillon Retrograde Hours
Undoubtedly one of the most emblematic horological complications, the tourbillon is given an original new expression in this model fashioned form pink gold and distinguished by a bezel echoing the scrolling circular design of the Berries collection. The vibrantly colourful signature feature of the collection lights up this exceptional timepiece with its 63 diamonds and 7 gemstones (two emeralds, two tourmalines, as well as one sapphire, ruby and amethyst) performing a precious and entrancing dance. The sparkle of the gems spills over from the case onto the crown that is also set with a pink tourmaline. Moreover, the jewellery inspiration of this watch and its many precious touches are also reflected in the most unexpected components, such as the oscillating weight set with 13 diamonds and visible through the sapphire case-back.

The subtle and refined white mother-of-pearl dial and its motifs centred around the tourbillon bear eloquent witness to subtle hand-crafted expertise. The delicacy of the decoration matches the gilt pink appliques emphasising the 13 Roman numerals. Why 13 rather than the conventional 12? Because the number 6 appears twice, on either side of the tourbillon opening, thus visually accompanying the retrograde motion of the hours hand that instantly jumps at exactly 6 o’clock from one 6 to the other in a 240° counter-clockwise rotation.

Everything about the Berries Tourbillon Retrograde Hours is exceptional: the design, the gem-setting, the dial craftsmanship, and of course the mechanical self-winding movement with its 22K oscillating weight. Featuring entirely hand-crafted decorative touches that are the true signature of fine watchmaking, the BVL 313 tourbillon calibre with retrograde hour display beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and boasts a 64-hour power reserve. This exceptional movement is entirely produced and assembled in Bulgari’s Fine Watchmaking workshops, while the black satin strap secured by a pink gold folding clasp set with 28 diamonds lends the ultimate touch of refined elegance. Feminine and sensual, complex and flamboyant, the new Berries Tourbillon Retrograde Hours is issued in a 25-piece limited edition.
Berries Jumping Hours and Retrograde Minutes
Its original and eye-catching silhouette features intriguing shapes and a fascinating precious face. The new Berries Jumping Hours and Retrograde Minutes is a creation evoking the kind of exceptional individuals endowed with considerable character and a strong personality.

Offering a distinctive and harmonious interpretation of the circular movement that has become a signature of the High Jewellery Berries collection, the new complicated ladies’ watch from Bulgari does not betray its roots. Its pink gold case is set with 133 diamonds and 7 gemstones (two emeralds, two tourmalines and one sapphire, ruby and amethyst) that literally light up the bezel and then merge into a sparkling scrolling motif. At the heart of this sparkling dance lies the well-surrounded and protected jumping-hour aperture revealing its central role in displaying time. It is complemented by the retrograde minutes hand which makes an instant 180° counter-clockwise jump every hour in order to accompany the onward march of time.

The precious nature of the Berries Jumping hour and Retrograde Minutes watch is further accentuated by the crown set with a tourmaline and by the refinement of a white mother-of-pearl composed of 10 segments pointing towards the jumping-hour display. At the heart of this model beats a mechanical self-winding movement in-house made by Bulgari and entirely decorated by hand. The ethereally graphic oscillating weight visible through the sapphire case-back is in made of 22K gold. The black satin strap is fitted with a folding clasp set with 28 diamonds.
These two radiantly shimmering creations proudly proclaim their origins and provide a talented expression of the twin fields of expertise cultivated by the Brand. Boldness, creativity, exuberance, refinement and complexity: these two new models combine a truly stunning array of qualities to offer a brilliant and passionate interpretation of time in the feminine mode.

I wonder why they named the watches, "Berries" They are very good at placing colored stones in a random way but still achieving balance. I also like how they segmented the mother of pearl dial. It makes it look more dynamic and further enhances the retrograde element.
Until now, I have been laying low and not making any comments for fear of being found out by the current Mrs MTF. If she has been monitoring my posts, I do not want to alert her to the existence of these 'berries' from Bulgari. Usually, she does not like gemstones on her watches and she prefers mechanical movements. Her favourite minor complications are 'jumping hour' and 'tourbillon'; so you can see my prudence was self-preservation! Although quartz movements are more convenient and preferred b
