ThomasM shares his unfiltered impressions of the 2013 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, offering a candid "data dump of the mind" from his time in the driver's seat. This post captures the raw, visceral experience of encountering one of the world's fastest production cars, focusing on unexpected details and overwhelming speed.
I was going to save this for last, the cherry on top of the cake, as it were.
But the more I think about it, the more ridiculous the idea became - a quick look at a Bugatti Veyron?!?
Even for a Purist that originated the occasional Sacred Cow Roast, the idea seemed absurd.
So here it is, with the only thoughts that come to mind when I think back about the time in the driver's seat (sorta a data dump of the mind -
Fast.
Damned fast.
manual sliding seat adjustment - a pull bar underneath the seat front between the legs.
Confusion: I spent minutes feeling around the left side thigh bolster looking for the seat slide adjustment, thinking "this thing CAN'T have a manual seat slide adjustment...it can't."
hmm...nice interior. Very nice...
Weird wheezing and hissing and gas outletting when you let off the throttle;
"Have you heard of turbochargers?"
Uh, yeah.
"Well, they have something called a wastegate, to let off the pressure from the turbos."
Uh, ok. So does the CL65. and SL63. And S8. and...
"The sounds are from the wastegate(s)."
Oh, really? hmmmm...
Stable.
Smooth.
Oh, and did I mention...
fast?
yes, fast.
that's it.
Fast.
And did I mention, fast?
(mumbling something unintelligible...fast...)
Is this car fast? :) Thank you for sharing Damjan
this car is fast. :-)
....I was looking through a recent(ish) copy of The Automobile where they looked into the Auto Union silver arrow cars...and also featured the Audi Rosemeyer concept car. Which bears an such an uncanny resemblance to the Veyron, that even Wikipedia mentions it. ;-) The Veyron is one of those cars that I just don't 'get'. Very impressive engineering endeavour....pursuing a strange goal.
... the reason is weight saving. I know that on porsche 991, the weight saving is around 60-70kg. That's a lot for something that you will hardly use and especially on a sport car where keeping weight as low as possible is critical. But my bet is that the back adjustement must be electronic. Btw, great car. Only problem is how to get back home with whatever you came with once you gave back the keys
Hi, I can imagine it is indeed about the weight savings, and was told so as well. But as you note, the back adjustment is motorized (obviously you are familiar with the car? you even know how very limited space is, both in the cockpit and "trunk space") which leaves me scratching my head - I understand the mindset of trying to reduce weight in any way possible; I LOVE the GT3RS, more the Cup car road version...but then, why not make the whole seat manual? Why the heavy high touch materials in th
Hi, BDLJ, What's there to get? It's a very fast car, designed to set some records and hold them for as long as possible. Pretty simple, and pretty straightforward. I was told by someone with a lifetime in the auto business (and automotive journalism) - "even the engineers don't know what engineering solution approach they are supposed to or going to take, they just have a mission statement and have to come up with whatever solution they can, integrated, blank sheet, hodge podge, whatever; just m
