In this insightful post, xto revisits Breguet's magnetically levitated balance, a horological innovation that initially captivated him despite a polarizing dial aesthetic. He highlights the new Breguet Ref. 7225, which integrates this advanced technology while addressing previous design concerns and introducing a novel, continuously running reset-seconds function. xto's perspective offers a valuable look at how a brand can refine its innovations to better resonate with discerning collectors.

When Breguet first introduced the magnetically levitated, high frequency balance, I was smitten..... with love dashed by the awful "t0Hz" in a bad font on the dial.

The new 7225 uses that balance but doesn't ruin the dial along the way.  AND it introduces a function I'd not been familiar with - not exactly a chrono, but a second continuously running seconds hand that can be reset to zero at a push. That's pretty neat.

Now, if they only made it small enough to suit my wrist...

It’s the first anniversary edition that I like!

Now thinking if I need to add it to my collection. I think it’s unique enough to deserve the spot.

Everything is seriously amazing on this watch, but I couldn't stop thinking of Mickey Mouse when I saw the announcement first on Instagram :(

I need to search if the dial layout is historical to Breguet. I agree that the disappeared 10Hz writing on the dial is a massive improvement! Best, E.

Breguet No. 2980 is similar. Watch No. 2 in David Salomons' 1921 Breguet book.
