In this insightful post, bimbeano offers a compelling comparison between the iconic 1980s Porsche 911 Speedster and the modern, high-performance Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Turbo S. His reflections delve into the emotional connection drivers have with classic internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles versus the raw, albeit different, power of contemporary electric vehicles (EVs). This piece sparks a broader discussion on the evolving automotive landscape, particularly the implications of increasing EV weight and the future of driving enjoyment.

An 80ies 911 …. A true icon.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a coupé, convertible, targa or in this cas the rare Speedster.
Actually it’s the only car a man could wish for.

But times are changing (BS) 😄 … .
In order to save our planet, our dear politicians have decided we need electric cars … with 760 hp … 100% deductable if you own the right company. That’s the reason why here in Flanders one out of 3 cars is at least a BMW hybrid … loads of SUV’s and loads of Tesla and other 2000+ kilo planet saving vehicles 🤣.
Okay, i took the ‘ Taycan Crossturismo Turbo S bifuel unlimited GTR bipolar megaconce tric ultra enemy worthy bizarre ‘ … that’s the full name but it doesn’t all show on the rear because that would be a bit hard to read … so where was i ? Oh i took the 760 hp EV Porsche for a drive and it was monstruously fast and brutal …. End of story … NEXT !

Emotion ? Yeah … but not like a GT3 or an Alpine A110 …
Tech stuff ? … yes absolutely  … but the owner wasn’t really convinced and said his Tesla was a lot easier to use.
So at 220K a very expensive toy …. But that doesn’t matter as it fully deductable 🤣.

Porsche going the Ferrari way …. That’ll be a couple of thousands for this plaque embedded in the coachwork sir … 100% deductable 😀.

And in the mean time poor people like myself and Nicolas have to drive lightweight petrol ICE cars, often with a manual transmission.
How unfair this world is … i am dreaming every day i could drive that Taycan every day …. NOT 🤣🤣🤣🤣 ! Okay , just maybe a few times for the acceleration and to show off a bit 😃.

About the Porsche Ref. 911

The Porsche Design Chronograph I, reference 911, represents a significant early offering from the brand, establishing its design philosophy in the watchmaking world. This model is notable for its minimalist aesthetic and functional approach, reflecting the brand's automotive heritage through its focus on legibility and material choice. It was conceived as a tool watch, prioritizing clarity and durability over ornate decoration, a characteristic that set it apart from many contemporaries upon its introduction.

Crafted with a black PVD-coated stainless steel case, the Chronograph I features a distinctive monochromatic appearance. The case diameter measures 40mm, providing a substantial yet wearable presence on the wrist. It houses an automatic movement, specifically the Valjoux 7750, known for its robustness and reliability. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal, ensuring scratch resistance, and offers a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.

This reference holds particular appeal for collectors interested in the origins of Porsche Design's horological ventures and the broader trend of black-cased watches. Its straightforward design and mechanical integrity make it a compelling choice for those who appreciate a blend of automotive-inspired engineering and practical watchmaking. The 911 reference is a foundational piece, illustrating the brand's initial vision for a performance-oriented timepiece.

I was never a 911 guy (chuck it off to my mid 80s birth date), but I will say that the vintage 911 Speedster is far more appealing to me than the hyper-polished (pun intended) brand-new Taycan Turbo S .... Enjoy your ICE manual while it's still a viable option for everyday use . Cheers Filip, Filip

But i do love the looks and the way it drives. That Clio and my 1988 Peugeot 205 will only go over my dead body.

Ditto for whenever I manage to get my manual, naturally aspirated Aston . Cheers, Filip
