KMII's exploration of the Autoforma Norrsken, a restomod based on the iconic Volvo P1800ES, highlights a growing trend in automotive customization that mirrors the independent watchmaking scene. This article delves into the appeal of reimagined classics, examining how modern engineering breathes new life into vintage designs and the financial considerations involved in such bespoke projects. KMII's initial post sets the stage for a discussion on balancing heritage with contemporary performance.

It seems restomods are about as popular in the automotive sphere as independents in watchmaking, even if the concept is a tad different.

Here a recent one that might be right up Nico’s alley, since it is based around the Volvo P1800ES, the famous β€˜Snow white casket’.

There are three levels of modification, with the highest using a Volvo 5 cylinder turbocharged petrol (at probably around 350bhp).

Looking a tad pumped up but at least it adds a bit of variety to the scene.

My main use of ChatGPT these days is to sense check different options for bringing up older machinery up to speed to be used for one or the other future road trip. Sadly the builds all end up a lot more expensive than taking something stock and newer πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Maybe one day - but first I need to find something that truly sings to me πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ»
