Orangedial presents a striking photo essay of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore 'Survivor', a timepiece known for its polarizing design. He delves into the watch's radical aesthetics, from its corrugated ceramic bezel to its weaponry-inspired details, offering a detailed visual exploration that aims to highlight its unique appeal, regardless of personal preference.
I have 2 groups of friends, one who swears by its uniqueness and the other despises its existence. With its radical outlook, there's no way to stand neutral about the Survivor. I happen to adore its loud and bold design. It defies rules, breaks design DNA, disregards practicality, but the result is a very photogenic special timepiece full of interesting details that please the curious eyes and camera lenses.
I hope to share some pictures of Sam's ("SamGMT") newly acquired Survivor that I recently photographed during our recent outing. Love it or hate it, hope these photos bring joy to your week ahead!
Loud & bold. Only the true Survivor has the guts to be this radical and to weather any foreseeable criticism.
The corrugated ceramic bezel is a delight, along with the controversial crown guards. I really like the design of the second subdial too.
On the wrist, the Survivor is light and comfortable due to the lightweight Ti case and a ribbed caseback that provides good grip. I can't comment about the practical wearability as there's a suspect that the protruding crown guards might obstruct the wrist movement. But from my brief handling experience, there's not much obstruction as suspected.
Do you notice the bored holes at the left corners of the midcase? No practical value whatsoever but purely decorative to give the watch a very weaponry feel.
A tint of red on the tip of the second hand adds a touch of coolness to the otherwise monotonous mercenary watch. The rubber straps with a specially designed strips of Tapisserie pattern extended from the lug plots enhances the overall look of this one-of-its-kind timepiece.
I like this photo a lot! The lighting nicely highlighted the survival dagger inspired hour and minute hands!
Lastly, a friendship wristshot of the Survivor with my WG ROC Salmon dial. Very different styles, but from the same great brand
Thanks for reading!
