Padj says I don’t post enough so here goes.

A few days ago, Robin alerted me of the availability of a blue dial RO 15300. I went down to the store the following morning, about 15 minutes before the store was open. I’m glad I did because while I was checking the watch out, there were numerous phone calls to the store enquiring about the watch. One call even came in from Hong Kong.

I decided to bring the watch to the Singapore AP boutique to get the watch checked and the bracelet re-sized.

Here’s Iylia using an equipment to melt the loctite. He explains that it is to prevent damaging the lug screws when unscrewing. I was impressed by the attention to detail.

A fresh coating of Loctite is reapplied after the bracelet has been sized.

The watch is then checked for accuracy. Unfortunately it runs fast. So I decided to send it in for a full maintenance service.

About a couple of days later while watching yet another episode of “Watchbox” videos on YouTube, Tim Mosso and Brian Govberg discussed the ROC ref: 25860st with a blue dial. While the show was still running on YouTube, I decided to google the reference and was surprised that one was available locally. I called the store and yes, it was still available, and I was at the store about 2 hours later to pick it up.

The watch is keeping good time so far but I’ll probably send it in for a full maintenance when I get my RO 15300 back.

Thank you Robin and Tim. smile

Regards,

Ian

About the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Ref. 15300

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak reference 15300 represents a significant evolution within the Royal Oak lineage, succeeding the 15202 "Jumbo" and preceding the 15400. It introduced a slightly more robust case and an in-house movement, distinguishing it from earlier models that often utilized Jaeger-LeCoultre base calibers. This reference maintained the classic Gérald Genta-designed aesthetic while offering a contemporary update in terms of its mechanical heart and wearability for a broader audience. It is often considered a transitional reference, bridging the gap between vintage and modern Royal Oak interpretations.

This reference features a 39 mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 9.4 mm, maintaining the characteristic octagonal bezel secured by eight hexagonal screws. The watch is powered by the in-house Audemars Piguet Caliber 3120, an automatic movement known for its robust construction and a power reserve of 60 hours. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the watch offers a water resistance of 50 meters. The integrated stainless steel bracelet is a hallmark of the Royal Oak design, ensuring a cohesive and comfortable fit.

For collectors, the 15300 is appealing due to its balanced proportions, which are often preferred over the larger 41 mm cases of subsequent references. Its in-house movement also adds to its desirability, marking a period of increased manufacturing independence for Audemars Piguet. The reference was produced with various dial colors, including blue, black, and white, offering collectors choices within this specific model run. The production period from 2005 to 2012 makes it a neo-vintage piece with a distinct place in the Royal Oak's history.

Honeymoon period so I love them.

To be honest, I wasn't too sure about the ROC because it was a hasty decision, but it is quickly growing on me. But the blue dial 15300 is something I have always wanted to add to my watchcollection for a while. My interest was piqued during during the AP Royal Oak 40th Anniversary Exhibition in Singapore in 2012. I sat through three sessions of the dial-making talks and pepper the dial maker with a ton of questions. I was enamored of the artisanal workmanship in the crafting of the tapisserie d
