The lure of the Jumbo...

Never did I expect to become a fan of the brand and its watches...particularly the Royal Oak line. From what I can remember,a friend showed me a pic of the Royal Oak 2 decades ago. He wanted one and asked for my inputs,my reaction was in the negative. This was due to the shape of the case which I was not accustomed to. Eventually he did not push through with the purchase as he decided to go the conventional route...

As time went by...and getting more immersed in the world of horology. I learned to appreciate timepieces more, not only the aesthetic aspects. Their inner workings and history became one of the focal points in my journey. A watch not only has to appeal to the senses but it also has to have a beauty within their soul.

What happened next was the inadvertent influence of the Royal Oak to a good friend. Apparently this also fueled my desire to have one. Soon i found myself doing quite a lot of research...extensively. Being able to experience the said pieces first hand further helped in the decision making process.

Questions lingered in my mind...the choice was between the same model from different eras. Each one having its unique appeal and beauty. Thus I had to seek advice from my gurus and peers from this forum. Having done that a decision was finally made...

About the Audemars Piguet Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15202 YG Ref. 15202

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak "Jumbo" ref. 15202 is a significant reference within the Royal Oak collection, known for its close adherence to the original 1972 design. It maintains the distinctive slim profile and integrated bracelet that defined the initial Royal Oak, distinguishing it from other Royal Oak models that introduced different sizes or complications. This reference is particularly valued for its historical continuity and minimalist approach to the Royal Oak aesthetic.

This reference features a 39mm case, typically crafted from yellow gold, with a thickness of 8.1mm. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal and offers a water resistance of 50 meters. Powering the watch is the self-winding Caliber 2121, a movement known for its slimness and a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The dial is presented in blue, complementing the yellow gold case and bracelet.

For collectors, the 15202 represents a direct link to the Royal Oak's origins, appealing to those who prioritize historical accuracy and understated design. Its production run from 2012 to 2019 makes it a sought-after reference among enthusiasts of the "Jumbo" lineage. The combination of its classic dimensions, integrated bracelet, and the Caliber 2121 solidifies its position as a key reference in the Audemars Piguet catalog.

Congrats! I have it "in stock" too...

...but I have decided to keep it away for a special occasion. Maybe Christmas... I also have a PAM "in stock" and that one comes in a couple of weeks, for my "name's day". So the AP has to wait. A pity my birthday is not until January... :( It really looks great!
