amanico presents a compelling dilemma for Audemars Piguet Royal Oak collectors: the 15202 in titanium and platinum with a smoked blue dial versus the new white gold version with a salmon dial. His post, featuring striking visuals, invites the community to weigh in on the aesthetic and material contrasts that define these highly coveted timepieces.

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak "Jumbo" ref. 15202 is a significant reference within the Royal Oak collection, known for its close adherence to the original 1972 design. It maintains the distinctive slim profile and integrated bracelet that defined the initial Royal Oak, distinguishing it from other Royal Oak models that introduced different sizes or complications. This reference is particularly valued for its historical continuity and minimalist approach to the Royal Oak aesthetic.
This reference features a 39mm case, typically crafted from yellow gold, with a thickness of 8.1mm. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal and offers a water resistance of 50 meters. Powering the watch is the self-winding Caliber 2121, a movement known for its slimness and a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The dial is presented in blue, complementing the yellow gold case and bracelet.
For collectors, the 15202 represents a direct link to the Royal Oak's origins, appealing to those who prioritize historical accuracy and understated design. Its production run from 2012 to 2019 makes it a sought-after reference among enthusiasts of the "Jumbo" lineage. The combination of its classic dimensions, integrated bracelet, and the Caliber 2121 solidifies its position as a key reference in the Audemars Piguet catalog.
. . . we get seemingly dozens (If not hundreds) of blue dials EVERY year. Still, the question posed by Nicolas is a good one. I'd be thrilled to own either one. M4
btw, do you the delay pour the regular 15202?
Patek, for one, is still trying to preserve this special "status of the salmon" (or so I believe, we'll see in a few weeks...), which I appreciate. On its beauty, of course, no discussion -- aesthetically I have no problem to put it pretty much on the same level as the blue.
I am hoping to be able to add both of these in the future at some point. I know the IP is no longer going to be available so it would have to come from a reseller, another collector, or 2nd hand. As for the availability of the salmon dial, we still are not certain what AP will do and how many pieces will actually be available. Forgot to say that I was thoroughly disgusted to find out that there is ALREADY a listing on chrono24 from a reseller in Monaco for a watch that is NOT EVEN available yet.
But in case of 15202 I lean towards the Pt/ti version regardless of the numbers produced . I believe in practical weight and just love the colour of titanium being contrasted with highly polished platinum. And offcourse needless to say that blue is a killer ! I’ve been waiting for almost 10 months for mine , let us see how much Ap appreciates my business or should my dollars Goto something else ...
I love my watches light and I understand that the white gold model is quite hefty. In addition, the titanium model would offer better value for money in my opinion. Of course, if there was a titanium with a salmon dial, I might actually consider buying one!
