Armin Strom Tourbillon Skeleton Water Review

The Armin Strom skeleton tourbillons are for me the essence of the brand touching as they do the history of Armin Strom  and his skeleton watches and the consequent use of in house movements in all their watches. The Tourbillon Skeleton Water has a stainless steel case and blue PVD coated main plate which spreads a blue glow in the movement in accord with the water theme, without being overbearing.  The dial is in sapphire so as to hide nothing.

The movement is generously skeletonised in a rigorously modern style with nicely angled and polished edges standing out well from the brushed flat surfaces.  In the sun the watch really sparkles.  In spite of the generous skeletonisation the time is easy to read thanks to the broad massive hands.  In poor lighting conditions the large superluminova surfaces of the hands are a big help.  The 2 serial barrels are manually wound and will run the watch for 10 days.  Watch out to not forget to wind once in a while.  In the Armin Strom tradition the ratchet wheels are seen from the dial side giving a particular animation during winding.  The deeply fluted crown makes the winding easy.

The case is 43.4mm in diameter and at 13mm thick is not really small, but it wears very well I found, even on my small wrist.  A big help is the extremely comfortable band.  The Armin Strom bands are very thick and massive, I was worried about the wearing comfort.  I was very surprised, they are among the most comfortable bands I have ever worn.
