Samos presents his rare Aqualung diver chronograph, a timepiece that sparks curiosity due to its scarcity and historical connections. His post delves into the brand's origins with Jacques-Yves Cousteau and its ties to other notable dive watch manufacturers. This article explores the unique characteristics and lineage of this vintage diver.

Here is a presentation of my Aqualung diver chronograph, a watch little common and complicated to pick up...

First, forgiveness for my deplorable English, I speak this language like a french cow ;-)

Aqua-lung is an english term that Jacques-Yves Cousteau invented  to market an invention that he had patented with Émile Gagnan in 1945.

Here is some copies of vintage catalog :

-->On the last image, we distinguish a chrono looking like the one who interests us but it is described as being automatic (Error of the catalog seen the aspect of the watch?!)

Little documentation on this diver's chronograph, here is a EBay's model sold a lot of time ago and I have missed :-(

The case in more rounded off handles (maybe very polite) and the bezel is not identical.

Besides, watches Aqualung was also distributed under the brand U.S. divers in the USA:

And Blancpain also distributed fifty phatoms under this brand :

I find a striking resemblance with this model of Lip Blancpain

In brief, with Aqualung, U.S.divers and Blancpain we are in the same  family but let's go back to the subject :

The case is perfect, the bidirectional glasses is very readable.

It is really a very sexy chronograph on the wrist, the golden logo attracts irresistibly the eyes

And under the hood???

With his little sister :

A small blow of projector on " the younger sister ":

Thank you for your interest and do not hesitate to communicate me pictures if you have!

I've never seen this one before. Always fun to learn about a new vintage chrono - especially one as cool as this. Love almost everything about this one. How big is the watch? Thanks for posting. Darren
