Amanico initiates a lively discussion comparing the Alfa Romeo GTV Coupé and the Fiat Coupé, two affordable yet fun-to-drive Italian sports cars. This post invites enthusiasts to share their thoughts on these front-wheel-drive models, focusing on their driving pleasure, engine options, and distinct design philosophies.

You want to have fun, but you don't want to sell your house / kidney / children? These 2 cars may provide you a lot of pleasure.

Alfa Romeo GTV. Forget the " entry models " and focus on the 6 cylinders, turbo ( 2 liters / 200 HP ) or Atmospheric ( 3 or 3, 2 liters, 200 to 220 HP ).

Fiat Coupé Turbo ( 4 Cyl / 200 HP / 5 Cyl / 220 HP ).

As you can see, the power is the same, between these 2 cars. The architecture, too, as they are both front wheel, sadly.

For the rest, you have an explosive behaviour ( Turbos ) and a rounder way to display the power with the big Atmospheric, which has less torque, logically than the 2 Turbos.

The personality is not the same. Designed by Chris Bangle, the body of the Fiat is very daring, for a Fiat.

The Alfa? Well, it is an Alfa, the fans cannot be disoriented.

I prefer the rear lights of the Fiat, to say all, to those of the Alfa. In both cases, the rear is maybe less inspired than the front.

But, for the price of these 2, you cannot go wrong. Pure driving pleasure.

What do you think?

Best,

Nicolas

Rumour has it that BMW was about to reconsider Chris Bangle after they've seen the Fiat Coupe in the flesh but by then it was too late ;) Even though both are FWD, they were considered amongst the better handling specimen of the species when new. I vaguely remember a UK car journalist being shocked at how much better the Spider (related to the GTV) handled than its RWD predecessor that is so revered today. I only ever drove the GTV and it was much less understeery than the 850T-5R and while the

The HF Integrale is hardly budget anymore, especially in the Evo versions. Sadly, it is a spectacular car.

Especially the Turbo as it has a very high top speed, i think 248 kph ! I do fear you will have to sell a kidney for maintenance thru the years ;-) Bim
