Cazalea initiates a community-wide roll call to identify PuristS members who own watches from AHCI (Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants) members. This ambitious project aims to map the breadth of independent watchmaking within the community, sparking discussion on the criteria for 'independent' and the complexities of tracking such diverse collections.
I have that exact Jutzi Goldpfeil Regulator, along with an MIH watch and a custom Habring2. Hope that helps. Best, Daniel
I say yes! Thanks, I'll add them in. Cazalea
Mike, This survey is fraught with problems. One: there is no denominator. Two: there is no criterium for quality or independence. Independent assembly vs Independent manu- facture? Even if hand crafted....done well by a meister or cobbled together by a well-meaning primate? Do you need photo evidence of model names as likely few people know many of the makers, let alone model names? Maybe confined to AHCI circle only, to keep it topical to the launch today of that initiative? At least two watchm
thus those are the only rows in the spreadsheet. However, I can see for example that: Paul Gerber could be associated with MIH (assembly) although did not design all of it, or have its brand name. Frank Jutzi watch was actually "created" or customized by him but labeled GoldPfeil Vincent Calabrese has produced watches under his own name and others - should they all count? Argh. You are right, but could it work if we limited to anything which we know was "done by" an AHCI member. Define "done by"
Even if defined as "masters" who passed the AHCI criteria once before, there are anomalies. Frank Muller is missing from the list even if he is a watchmaker-in-name, nowadays with a big boss. FP Journe is on the list but actually in the same position as Muller (see above) Calabrese has goneback to being an individual independent. I'd be interested to see if ANYONE has a delivered Vyskocil watch! Valerii Danevych AHCI pen and Paul Gerber PuristS 10th watch Regards, MTF
At first I thought perhaps JUST counting the watches currently owned, but that penalizes those who have revolving collections. But if we count ALL the watches EVER owned, there could be multiple owners of the same item (as with Daniel and me) which would skew the numbers. This might be a bit unfriendly to those makers we know and love but who for one reason or another are NOT on the AHCI. I'll let you know ASAP if a VV shows up! I thought of you when I saw his name on the list ... Mike
