Ant takes readers on an unexpected journey to Budapest, the home of independent watchmaker Aaron Becsei, sharing a deeply personal encounter with the artisan. This post offers a rare, intimate look into Becsei's workshop and his horological creations, from his earliest miniature clock to his current pieces. Ant's narrative celebrates the spirit of independent watchmaking and the passion behind these unique timepieces.
In need of a complete change we decided to have a few days in Budapest. As a Bexei owner I am sure that you can imagine my complete surprise when my wife asked..."Isn't that where your watch comes from?".... the thought had never crossed my mind. Ahem!!
We spent a few days wandering around this lovely city. But be warned even the official yellow taxis are cheats. We took a short journey four or five times (no traffic to speak of) and the fares ranged from FT1820-FT4950!! All what appeared pukka meter readings...so be careful!!
This is a rendering of an evolution Aaron's design. Looks amazing to me.

Aaron and his wife Ezster

Aaron started his business in his parents basement. As things got better he got his own private door!!

His dad was a watchmaker and when he was about 16 years old took Aaron to an exhibition where he saw 'the smallest clock in the world". Just like every 16 year old he decided to have a go at it himself (not!). The result is pictured below. It is hard to grasp just how diminutive it is. Look at his fingers....gasp!!

Welcome!!

So things moved on and at the age of about 21 he made a triple calendar tourbillon (as you do),,,all of it, every bit!!

Current stuff:

Aaron designed machine to make pinions.

Under dial work

Hands in progress

Aaaaaaanlage!!!

Thanks to Aaron for a wonderful meal, a fascinating tour and just for existing
