KMII's recent experience trying on the A. Lange & Söhne Cabaret has transformed a long-standing platonic appreciation into serious temptation. This article explores why this rectangular timepiece, particularly in white gold or platinum, continues to captivate collectors and become a coveted addition to any serious collection. KMII's journey highlights the importance of wrist-time in solidifying a watch's appeal, even for a piece admired for years.

The ALS Cabaret has long been a piece that got a lot of platonic appreciation from my side. Yet for some reason the first time I got to strap it on and try it was fairly recently during two separate occasions.

And now, knowing full well it will fit my wrist I am thoroughly tempted. Would probably try a WG or Pt variant (a lot more difficult to find nowadays - the disadvantage of a later birth) but it will probably have to join the collection at some point 🤞🏻

About the A. Lange and Söhne Cabaret Ref. 117.031

The A. Lange & Söhne Cabaret reference 117.031 is a notable rectangular wristwatch from the Glashütte manufacture, distinguished by its distinctive case shape and the integration of a large date display. This reference is part of a series that offered a departure from the brand's more common round cases, presenting a different aesthetic while maintaining the characteristic Lange design language and finishing. It represents a specific period in the brand's modern history, appealing to collectors seeking a less conventional form factor from the marque.

This particular reference features a rose gold case, housing a manually wound movement. The case dimensions are designed to sit comfortably on the wrist, with a sapphire crystal protecting the dial. The movement, visible through a sapphire caseback, showcases the meticulous hand-finishing and traditional German watchmaking techniques for which A. Lange & Söhne is known, including Glashütte ribbing and blued screws. The power reserve is substantial for a manually wound caliber of its type.

As a rectangular watch from A. Lange & Söhne, the Cabaret 117.031 appeals to collectors interested in the brand's diverse design offerings beyond its round models. Its relative scarcity compared to some other Lange lines, particularly in certain metal variants, contributes to its appeal among those looking for a distinctive piece. The large date complication is a signature element, providing both legibility and a recognizable brand identity within its unique case architecture.

In my opinion, this rose gold version is the best one. Sadly, I can’t wear gold, for religious reasons. Go for it my friend !
