I tried on a few weeks ago and loved it.

If it calls your name, go for it. The design only has to speak to you and you alone. I liked the gray dial variant longer term, because the blue eagle eye was more pronounced for me. But it’s charming and a great vacation watch that not many others will have. Treat yourself smile

Ok, someone want to talk me out of buying this?

The new Chopard Alpine Eagle. Commentards on the web say it’s a mishmash of design ideas, it’s unoriginal, it’s a poor man’s Royal Oak / Nautilus... I was curious, went to the boutique and tried it on. So... first of all, it’s actually available. Ok, not ...

Much better without the plastic!

If it sings to you - BUY IT and enjoy it!!!

Romans on a sports watch? . . .

Hmmm

 By: Esharp : December 18th, 2019-06:53
Good question, Art. Well - Patek did it with one older Nautilus variant! I thought I’d dislike those numerals but in the metal they helped move the ‘sports’ vibe toward ‘dress’, which to my mind is what this design does quite well overall. Still, somethin...

More specifically, it's the juxtaposition between . . .

. . . cardinal Romans and offset Arabic date aperture that creates unnatural aesthetic tension. Sans date, the design would've been more coherent, imho. Art

Awww, drat.

“What has been seen cannot be unseen.” And now I’ve seen that juxtaposition. Very perspicacious, sir! I’m gonna have to look at that again and see how it takes me the next time I try it on. That juxtaposition of romans and Arabic numerals is something I’v...

Unique style or mix of styles?

 By: Jurry : December 18th, 2019-01:59
You mentioned that many have an opinion as if this watch is poor mix of styles. Romans on a sports watch Date at 4.30 Etc And indeed this Chopra’s seems to have a little bit of everything. Is that a mix of styles, or is that perhaps a unique style in its ...

Good point!

 By: Esharp : December 18th, 2019-06:54
And very well put too. It ain’t perfect but I’m finding it somewhat compelling... Best E.

Go for it

For all the reasons you've listed and more....like how comfortable it is on the wrist.

It *is* comfortable

 By: Esharp : December 18th, 2019-07:00
Thanks for pointing it out. This one immediately felt comfy; they got the dimensions right for me. By contrast I never went for the 15300/15400 Royal Oaks as they never fit my wrist the way I liked them to. (On the other hand, Mrs E’s ROO ladies’ chrono f...

Very nice.

The dial looks amazing, I like this watch. My only reservations are the screws on the bezel. Would need to see this in the metal. It looks good on you.

If you’re ok with the 4:30 date, then I’m not stopping you, sorry :)

 By: Clueless_Collector : December 17th, 2019-20:46
For me, if there is no date or date at 6, then I’ll be very interested.

It’s dates at 3 that tend to bother me

 By: Esharp : December 18th, 2019-08:08
I mostly just don’t like having a date window at all. But for some reason the 3:00 position is less appealing to me than the 4:30. The small version has no date...but is a fraction too small. So for me this is ok. Understood for others it could be a no-go...

It has an original dial what they call an eagle’s eye?

 By: Pun : December 17th, 2019-21:40
That’s the best part what I like in this collection. The flip side is the movement of the watch. I expect much more decoration on it at this price point, if you’ve a display case back. The movement, on the contrary, looks very industrial finish to me. ...

True and...true.

 By: Esharp : December 18th, 2019-07:26
The dial really is fantastic. It’s at least as dynamic in changing light and as the wrist moves as the competition. A colleague was wearing a 5711 at work today and it struck me his Patek’s dial might not be as interesting as that of this Chopard (is this...

Why not buy something on a rubber strap - like a Seamaster Professional? Has the history, expertise and probably costs less than this one.

I tried to!

 By: Esharp : December 18th, 2019-07:35
That’s a sound idea. And in fact I actually tried the Seamaster 300 and a number of Seamaster and Aqua Terra models on the same day as I tried on the Chopard. I really expected to love the SM300. Was really surprised that it did nothing for me when I put ...

Chopard is one of the last independent watchmakers (like Audemars or Patek). BUY IT!! ...

If the watch sings to you, it’s no matter that others don’t hear the song.

 By: Ano Nuevo : December 17th, 2019-23:44
And you can quote me! ;-) A musically-inclined Ano Nuevo

Stay away of derivative design choices (ok maybe I should not say that as the owner of two such derivatives, being the Nautilus and the Overseas...).

 By: LX (Alex) : December 18th, 2019-02:48
... if you can't resist, wait for a while and pick it up for a song once the first person sells his into the pre-owned market. I just don't see a design USP in this watch. The dial is fantastic, though, and I do like this type of steel.

Possibly a wise perspective

 By: Esharp : December 18th, 2019-08:12
The ‘wait and pick it up after someone else has borne the initial depreciation’ strategy is perhaps a very good idea! I’ve got a good deal on the table through my usual drug—er, watch dealer. Does additional savings make sense with a bit of a wait? Ok, th...

 By: Jay (Eire) : December 18th, 2019-04:19
Never heard that word before but after looking it up it means exactly what I thought it might (after I figured out it wasn’t a typo). As for the watch, there’s something about these that is really appealing to me, at least from the pictures. I have not se...

 By: Esharp : December 18th, 2019-08:22
Yep, well...let’s just say that if you’re looking for an opinion on the web you can usually find just about whatever you want to support your own thinking! That’s why I thought I’d ask the relatively wiser folks here. In any case, I was joking about the ‘...

Hi Eli, hope you're fine

i've tried the watch couple of weeks ago, it's really a great value for money. Knowing what you usually wear, I can just say that you won't regret it. Dial is indeed stunning, bracelet is a masterpiece of engineering. Yep, the date is a bit odd at 4, but ...

Thanks!

Hi Simone! Thank you for the encouragement, your thoughts mean a lot! Best E.

Commentards. Hat off!

 By: piccolochimico (aka dsgalaxy1) : December 19th, 2019-03:12
Nobody couldn't have said it better. There are too many people posting thoughts with little, or even none experience of some watches. Does the Alpine look like Nautilus, RO, Overseas, Hublot, Octo, Ingenieur (old one)? Not at all. They belong to the crowd...

Absolutely!
