Fantastic!

That’s funny, the HK Phil also performed (among other things) Pelleas et Melisande a few weeks ago too. It’s great to have live music again… Jaap van Zweden isn’t here but the band he’s trained up over the years is as good as ever and a young Austrian conductor named Christoph Koncz impressed, as did HK-born pianist Chiyan Wong in the Ravel piano concerto - I’m hard to please, especially with the crowd-pleasers, and he was really rather fine.

Fond memories of the Barbican - generally terrible acoustics (albeit nothing is as bad as the Royal Albert Hall, aka the Really Awful Hall, even with all the various improvements) but thinking of the Bach Collegium Japan there under Maasaki Suzkuki a number of years ago still brings a smile to my face. Let’s face it, London doesn’t have any large venues with good acoustics - I love the RFH but listening is really only ok upstairs; that said, there are some really lovely smaller halls (Wigmore, SJSS…).

Now, as for that watch…I think it needs a tour of concert halls round the world. I understand that the live sound waves tune into the balance spring and enhance timekeeping through a mysterious resonance effect. So, just ship it to me for a few months and, purely as a disinterested assistant you understand, I’ll make sure it gets some good music. smile

Best

Real Life Begins to Return

Last night I went to a concert at The Barbican in London. It was a moving experience. After what seems like forever being 'in lockdown' at last we were allowed to go to concerts. The Barbican is far from my favourite concert hall but last night it sounded...

Lovely dial Ant!

The only time I ever went to the Barbican was in 1995 but I slept through the performance! I was not very cultured then. OK, ok, I have not changed much

this wondeful, sensual piece. I didn't know what I was missing! I agree about the Barbican's acoustics but last night was an ear opener. It was full, warm and properly resonant, the first time I've heard that there. Maybe the original designers forgot to ...

Oh wow…

Now you’ve got me jealous with your upcoming concerts. If I still lived in London no doubt we’d have crossed paths…seems we have rather similar taste in music and watches! Enjoy the music and the Chopard… Best E.

not F!! I did wonder. It sounds like you are into pianism. If so, I think that we are living in a golden age: Sokolov, Volodos, Kissin, Lugansky, Gavrilov, Pletnev, Batsashvili.....search on YouTube, there are some amazing videos there. Also, you may not ...

Good shot ! ...

and super classy…I love Chopard the same way I love Parmigiani…if I weren’t such a devotee to a single brand they would both be on my list.

but somehow we are in a minority, they just don't seem to get the love and respect that they merit. The same for early Parmigiani's, I have a platinum black dial Ionica,,,a great and hugely underappreciated watch. Regards Antony

What a nice companion for such an event!
