Chopard LUC Tourbillon 8 Days. A not so old wonder.

This one is from 2005 ( Credit: Christies ). A " civilized " version of the Steel Wings?

In platinum, 40 mm case, 100 pieces.

Yes, yes, poinçon de Genève AND COSC certified, with a superb decoration.

I must admit that the one which made me dream, in 2004, was the Steel Wings.

Here, the Sincere Edition, limited to 5 pieces, in steel, with 9 days of power reserve. A mad and young way to revisit the Tourbillon. 40, 5 mm case, 11 mm high.

This was the era of the long power reserve watches. Jaeger Lecoultre came with its 8 days, then 15 days power reserve, IWC, too, Patek with the Ten Days ( 5100 ), Lange with the 31 Days, and... Chopard.

The Steel Wings is the watch which made me pay some serious attention to Chopard. Ok, there was the Mille Miglia, at the end of the 90's, but here, this is a totally different game.

Best,

Nicolas

A great movement. But slightly imperfect dial.

The dial on the primary model is not perfect. The Chopard font is not the script font I prefer. The proportions are also slightly off.

I prefer the Steel Wings for that reason, too.

I would love one but they are not easy to come by! Followed a black dial one recently on auction but hammered well above my pain threshold (un)fortunately!

They start to be quite pricey...

the black dial or the skeleton? there is also a skeleton platinum version I believe that is less rare than the one you posted above

Tough one

I expected you go the other way to be honest. For me the skeleton by a small margin. I prefer the look of the tourb cage on the black dial but power reserve more appealing on the skeleton. Then on the overall I have a weakness for skeleton so on the margi...

Lovely pieces, both of them.

I prefer the black dial. (I am not a skeleton watch person.) Thanks for sharing. From what I know, Chopard for its L.U.C. models likes to obtain the certifications.

I always liked the little crank to wind the watch.

It came with the tourbillons, but not with regular Quattro. To fully wind all 4 barrels by hand was a chore. The crank definitively helped.

Yes quite a chore, indeed. ;)

and a joy to wear! Optimum accuracy over the 8 days. Dial made of gold which is rare to find. I am happy it gets the attention it deserves now… ...
