Some Santos Love

Feb 15, 2020,05:44 AM

Every time when I see a Santos, I melt a bit.

No matter which version it is. From the simple 1978 steel/gold model,
to this high end skeleton Santos Dumont model.
What are your thought on the Santos as a model in general?

I had the Galbee XL, and miss it quite a lot, don't even know why I sold it to be honest...

That really was a dumb move on my part!!

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Can’t even remember what I traded it for. Funny thing is, no one would say it is XL, with the current trend of sizes today.

Interesting subject Geo....

We seldom see or discuss the Santos, but it is a classic design with a unique character and charm. Reminds me of the early 80s. I like your photo.

And let's not forget, it was La Maison's first men's watch

that Louis Cartier designed in 1904 and started to sell in 1911.

Tangential question, I am sorry.

Do you think there will be a resurrection of new Louis tanks soon? Feel like that is quintessential Cartier, including the Santos, of course, arguably one of the first wrist watches ever. Ted

There is a new Tank Louis Cartier

Available in two sizes on bracelet and in two sizes on a leather strap. Unfortunately only in pink gold, not in white gold or platinum. Manufacture hand wound caliber. GEO

Don’t know about the Santos...

but you make every Cartier look sick!! That picture just captures the essence of relaxed elegance.

Platinum, hand winding, salmon dial would do it for me. But Cartier in general is further down in my wish list frankly (along with the Tortue monopoussoir) picture source: Christies ...

That 90th. anniversary model is stunning

I agree, not only for the dial color, but also for the Breguet hands that make it look so attractive. GEO

I do love the Santos.

For me this is the most emblematic Cartier watch. Your Dumont skeleton is of course absolutely gorgeous. I currently have this one: This is my only non-round to the curved caseback it is also one of the most comfortable watches on my wrist. Also like a l...

within minutes is very good. I still have an older one and I must say that it is one of the watches I wear most. GEO

Who says you should only wear French cuff shirts with a suit, or tux. I like it with

the denim jacket, and the watch looks amazing too. I'm stepping out of my box somewhat and have started wearing my navy flannel double breasted blazer with jeans, many compliments on it too.

A blazer with jeans; I am sure that looks great!

I like a bit more casual combinations like that. GEO

Cool version of the Santos Dumont, love it.

From your gorgeous skeleton to precious metal to PVD, all the Santos share the same essence but show different characters. This really shows the versatility of the design.
