I set a personal goal
I set a personal goal of getting a Cartier tank watch by the
end of this year. I can't just go out and get one as I have other
obligations to consider as they come first. I have never
sold or traded a watch and won't start now. A few dollars here,
a few cents there and I'll be there by year's end. That gives me
time to decide which I want, automatic or quartz. I've always had
manual wind and automatics but am giving the quartz serious
consideration. It would always be on the correct time
and ready to go, and to be honest I don't think I'm giving
anything up with the quartz. For those of us who care no
one would know due to the lack of the seconds hand. Yes,
I would know but would but would be sworn to secrecy.
Wouldn't be an everyday watch, just worn when the mood
strikes me. I tend not to set personal goals as they can
lead to disappointment, but in this case I think (know) I can
get there and I'm looking forward to it.

Do you really have no watches that you’re willing to sell/trade?
Depending on how many you have, as the number increases then probability increases of select watches not having the same significance as initially, even if just because tastes and interests change. But I am impressed and amazed to read how resolute you ar...
I'm resolute about keeping all my watches too
until someone makes me an offer on one... then I'm afraid it's outta here.

Taking a little time to consider can be good.
I set a goal for 2022 to buy my first Reverso, but along the way I did find myself looking at multiple choices I thought would scratch the Reverso itch. By June I had made a selection and was glad I didn't rush it.
I recently bought a Cartier Tank Francaise with a quartz movement — absolutely love it, no regrets at all about the movement (i.e., not being mechanical).
I already have a Reverso and a Gondolo — the TF is a bit different in case shape, bracelet only, and portrays a nice urban vibe. Have fun with your decision and I appreciate your spending discipline!
