I know dear fellas you are all trying to help...but please resist the urge. A lot of newbies with no real contribution here come up with the same story....

....just to sniff out the possibilities. There is no reason why won't they just go to a jeweler conveniently avail on every city block. What do you feel is the real purpose of this excercise? Why did they pick Purists platform to gauge the authenticity rather than trust a jeweler. Just my 2c. No offense to OP.

Is this Cartier watch authentic?

 By: JustWatching : February 18th, 2021-05:39
Hello everyone my father has this watch and it was bought in the 70s or 80s and I wanted to know if its real because I got in doubt when I saw it was only written Swiss and not Swiss Made on the front and I thought maybe the older models were like that or...

Looks fishy to me

just my 2 cents

Pretty much everything looks of

the dial, the hands, the crown, the buckle (100% wrong, not even a copy), the strap I actually can't see anything that makes me doubt this could be a real one - sorry And the case - supposed to be gold - does not have any gold stamps that I can see

That Tank Francaise was launched in 1996 🤥

No message body

As your father was wearing this...it’s sentimental value is much more than anything else !

After all Cartier still a brand, despite a prestigious one. Best, Mahesh.,

I would have it checked by... Cartier. Seems something is missing on the dial and the writing 'Cartier' below 12 seems odd...

I am no expert so I am speaking only with my experience. The case back markings too I never seen it lay out this way. After a visit to a Cartier boutique, you and us will learn more.

70’s I don’t think got replica watch ,and this from your father , this the real value of the watch.

It is missing the word "Cartier"

 By: Thomas_3 : February 18th, 2021-06:10
that is usually found in the 5 of the Roman numeral 7 on the dial.

Very sorry to say . . .

. . . that I should be suspicious of this watch. There are no cartouches on the back eg water resistance etc. The crown, crystal and deployant look incorrect. There is no hidden Cartier signature on the dial. My two pence with sadness. Clive

Just to clarify even If the watch is fake It will not lose its value to me because like all of you are saying the sentimental value is far more greater than anything else

Hi Dear Sir first of all no offense taken because you may have encountered posts like these before and as you have mentioned, yes I am a newbie and I may not be able to contribute a lot to this platform because I dont know a lot about watches however I am...

So your dad bought this watch in 70s or 80s - a watch that was launched in 1996. More importantly, why wud you doubt your father's credibility ?

 By: redcorals : February 18th, 2021-09:09
...Why wud you trust strangers on internet to tell you anything and not your father?

Of course this is not Cartier and wasn't bought in

70 or 80s, because this is modern (2000s) fake of the Tank Française.

BAM!

Are there any hallmarks?

To indicate the precious metal?
