Hi Captain.

Certainly Cartier are on a roll right now. I’ve always struggled to find the right model for me. This one is quite an interesting revamp and I’m sure will be a hit.
I’m happy to say that after an “on again / off again” search I’ve finally landed on a Cartier for my collection - the XL Santos Dumont in RG.

I love the fact that it complete with the reworked Piaget 430P movement - the 430MC - hidden away behind the solid caseback.

The sizing at around 47mm x 34mm is the Goldilocks Cartier size for me and the historical significance of the model - first gents wristwatch, first pilots watch - and lack of date window make it just perfect.

I’ll be interested to see how you make out in trying the new model!

The New Cartier Tank Française …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : January 18th, 2023-14:25
Cartier have significantly revised the Tank Française and the new design features a modernist satin finish, recessed crown and a curvaceous case profile. Looking at the design it’s instantly recognisable as a Cartier Tank Française, but updated and very r...

My only gripe is that the WR only 30 meter. With such a sporty, all brushed finish, this watch deserves at least 100 mtr WR like santos

Hope in the future they also release a dark dial (blue or black) with lume on hands. And a no-date to make it even more clean.

Personally, I can’t imagine wanting to jump into a pool with any Cartier on my wrist…

But we are all different. As for the date window, I completely agree.

I imagine

it’s in case you fall in to the pool or get pushed!!

That’s fair enough …

Better elsewhere for your needs. What’s your preferred choice of watch ?

What’s that saying? “Rolex Rolex Rolex” 😂

Actually I love AP RO and ROO too but actually I have varied tastes. It’s just that low water resistance scares me 😳

It’s good to have varied tastes …

as a watch collector. It’s all part of the pleasure and the journey.

It could have been so much more

The date is a deal breaker for me.

Thanks for sharing your opinion.

I really like it

I am not a big fan of the date window, I don't like the seconds hand and I would prefer it on a strap, but it's an appealing package overall.

I find it clunky

 By: Esharp : January 18th, 2023-15:20
And less elegant than the original. Also, the automatic movement is simply a Sellita. And I won’t say anything about the clumsy date. Maybe I’ll be convinced by seeing it in person but from what I have seen so far, it’s a big no from me. Shame, as they’ve...

It’s the same difficulty…

That the Porsche design department have 😉

the movement

will be the last reason for buying this watch. most will be sold to women in small and medium with the quartz movement. The "relaunch" is not the point, Cartier has not "revolutionized" their design, it's a slow and steady evolution. The dial, for example...

I don't mind the date, and they must do research that states people want it or they wouldn't bother.

I kind of wonder if the brushed finish that looks nice new will wear down unevenly like my Rolex bracelet. But I guess they can always rebrush it.

Apparently…

 By: Cpt Scarlet : January 18th, 2023-17:08
Cartier have done just that and people want a date included 🤷🏼‍♂️

My pal just bought this version . . .

. . . seen here on his wrist . . . . . . in my garage. His preference is Rolex, but for those formal meetings at work, he figured this Cartier was more appropriate. ⌚️ ...

Hi Art,

I’m also looking forward to seeing them in person. Best regards Captain

Thanks again Captain.

I did see this model a couple of weeks ago at my AD (not on display and no photos!). I went back today and took these photos of the large model in stainless (my wrist size is 17.2cm). ...

Excellent, thank you …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : January 19th, 2023-18:30
Your photos are really useful for our community. I was due to see the watch at a preview but I was on vacation. What did you think about it ?

You’re welcome.

 By: Timeout : January 19th, 2023-19:50
Personally I prefer this over the previous model. I think the overall “squared off” look is more of a statement differentiating its place in the Tank family. I particularly like the way that the bracelet looks a more solid match in the way it marries to t...
