Thanks Geo!

I love the Santos Dumont from the 80s and 90s even though they were so small but to me , that is where their beauty lies. I had a similar one as in the photo below and wish I had kept it. As for this lovely tortue, the watch gives my partner a feel good factor, a feeling of achievement after her humble beginnings and eventual hard work and success. Any watch that can have that effect is priceless in my opinion.

To me, the perfect Santos Dumont! smile

Last year, I decided to celebrate my birthday in Geneva so I took my partner on her first ever trip to one of my favourite cities. I love Geneva not only due to the obvious attractions but for the scenery of the surrounding mountains and Lake Geneva. It i...

At least I don't think so But I love the tiny bezel, the simplicity of the dial, the blue hands and the ornate crown. Thank you for your comment.

My error sorry!

According to Cemre in his reply below, the dial is in enamel.

Nice!

I had no idea that Cartier made watches with enamel dials. This only strengthens my belief that Cartier made wonderful collectible watches in the 20th century!

Beautiful.

Cartier is the design king, and the Tortue may be the nicest. This is a fine example.

Thanks Mike! :-)

I agree with you there. They may not have the best movements but they excel in design (at least they did!! )

Even though she has seen a Jaeger Reverso she quite likes, I did advise her that this Cartier is a keeper and it exudes sheer class and elegance in the most subtle of ways.

Thank you Aris!

I shall convey to her your kind compliment. I wish in a way that the newer tortue watches had a smaller bezel but I guess that is why this watch is a classic!

Beautiful and great to see

that there is still love for this gorgeous vintage Tortue. Like the Santos Dumont, these are watches that always look great, no matter their size. Gongratulations and I hope the both of you will enjoy this Tortue. GEO

Although from the Tortue family, it’s a Cartier Dauphine from 1978, made by Ebel in Switzerland. Of course the dial is white enamel! Relatively rare watch.

Seriously???!!!

Thank you Cemre for the invaluable information. My partner will be overjoyed to know that the dial is enamel.

You are welcome!

I’m working on a « Cartier Codex » : It’s still under construction but you can find some informations about the Tortues here.

Most impressive Cemre!

Hi, I know this is a bit late, but I was wondering what happened to your Cartier Codex site? It was a very valuable resource for us Cartier lover's out there. Will it be possible for you to run the site again? You should know there are a lot of people who...

That's what a watch is good for

to produce positive feelings while looking at it, or indeed even while feeling it around your wrist. A tiny trophy perhaps, or a "well done" pat on one's back. Nice. Cazalea

Thank you for the compliment!

I think credit has to go to my partner for her excellent taste in almost everything (especially men!)
