Has anyone worked through the Cartier NSO "New Special Order" program? If so, would love your thoughts!

I'm curious about your experience and the results, how flexible you felt the design team was at incorporating your requests (if you had any). I know some collectors have felt that NSO had implicit promises of piece unique status in the past, but Cartier h...

Protected is probably a bad word for it

Cartier makes no promises or guarantees that a special order design will not be reproduced. It seems there was some discussion on IG about a month ago where long time NSO collectors felt the policy previously implied piece unique status, and were somewhat...

There was a similar post by someone here a month agoโ€ฆ

He got โ€œapprovalโ€ to do 2 watches NSO, so probably can ping him and ask too. I wonder what is the criteria for clients to get such special attention, thought it was for high flyers like Revolution or SJX or SWC owner etc.

Cartier's VVIP complained about NSO policy

I read Roni Madhvani's Instagram post back in March. It is clear that he is not happy about the custom dial policy. Following is the recap of that post. ...

Yes

This post, among other personal experiences, was what prompted me to ask the question. It seems as though in the past Cartier, perhaps unofficially, made the NSO program seem like a Piece Unique process whereas now they have clarified it that they will no...

Thanks for sharing.

Cartier themselves

 By: MZHammer : April 18th, 2022-22:37
Upon inquiry, and confirmed further by Roni in his IG posts. I believe GEO can back me up. NSO is best described as semi-custom, take an existing cartier shape, choose the metal, build the dial and get approval from Cartier design team that the design is ...

I had not researched this at all

But I thought Roni's 2-part comment on the gram on 4/4 was illuminating. Pretty much, nothing is set in stone, and Cartier is still in the process of figuring this out.

True, the design will never be exclusive for the customer

 By: Geo : April 19th, 2022-06:13
After all, all that we as customers are doing, is playing and shifting around the typical Cartier elements. Because the watch still needs to look like a Cartier. When you look at the designs that were made for-and with Rony, SJX, and others, and these des...

Yes, that was my exact understanding of the process now

 By: MZHammer : April 19th, 2022-12:35
That cleared up, may I ask how you enjoyed the creative process? How involved were you with proposing the design elements of the model, and was Cartier deeply involved in suggesting changes or suggesting additional elements?

You can be as involved as you like and so is Cartier

but bear in mind that the process takes a very long time. I followed two custom orders from friends; my Arabic Cintrรฉe, which I mentioned, was not ordered by me, so I was not involved in that one.

I couldn't be less sympathetic to the tears of pouting collectors, here.

Make no mistake, brands can be and are sometimes absolutely disrespectful of the people who make up their most loyal customers. A grown man pouting that his jewelry isn't special enough because other princesses may someday also have one isn't one of those...
