The disappointment that is Cartier today…

So, what we have here is the result of either an ill trained finisher who went “brush crazy” while satin brushing the case OR a case with pinhole porosity due to faulty casting. Whatever it is, it is ugly, embarrassing and is not the first time I see it o...

I am one to know!

4 samples of the Santos-Dumont Xl with so many issues! no idea why. The problem is their boutique were made aware of the issues but they just resold the same timepieces with zero care.

“ A watch purchase should be a memorable and pleasant experience where collectors, regardless of age or status, are treated with respect and appreciation and not one where a client has to go through disappointment”…

😂😂😂😂 I’m sorry for laughing about such a serious matter, and I hate to distract from your serious QC issue with Cartier (feel free to add JLC to that list)…but ever since ~2015, watch purchasing has not been a memorable/pleasant experience for anybody but...

It is laughable!

Glad to know im not the only person who notice the dramatic change in treatment since 2015! ive seen so many terrible QC issues with the burgundy reverso but JLC took action and actually recalled the faulty batches and made it right.

This looks really nasty... is it visible to the naked eye?

So many bad stories about quality of modern watches from conglomerates... Vintage horology seems to offer a much better price/quality ratio

It most certainly is

...

Hello! Honestly I am no expert

But one watchmaker and one jeweller mentioned this looks like pinhole porosity due to faulty casting of the metal.

It looks like excessive brushing to me, and/or a too-hard brush tearing the metal

Returning the watch back to them is your only recourse. BTW, brushing isn't like using a toothbrush. Here are some images from Grand Seiko, showing the brush with brass "bristles" Which is clamped between two discs of the correct size. The operator told m...

Very interesting!

Thank you so much for sharing this!

But my Richemont from 2K is wel made. I loupe my watch like Sherlock Holmes, and i am surprised how good it is made. Even the Sellita movement is doing fine. Yes, it depends on models and brands. I think the warrantee that’s given is the only possibility ...

I'll have to check mine as well...

It's in safe and I'll plan a visit soon. Your post has made me nervous. I thought Cartier was taking care of such details by default!

Appalling

All they are interested in is to pocket the money. At this rate, 10 years from now there will be no heritage or respect left for the brand.

Shame for this
