Bvlgari: Octo vs Octo Roma

Apr 06, 2018,08:06 AM

Today  i went to the dentist at midday, then i headed to the Bvlgari boutique place in Galleria Cavour in Bologna.

First, let me tell you that Fabrizio is worth a visit; if i weren't a bit knowledegble, i would be more struck by his passion and competency as actually i was.

We spenta lovely 30 minutes in trying several Octo and discussing of horology.

I tried to shoot some photos, but the light was so bright coming that the result is less impressive of what was being there.

Anyway, i'll show some stunning details i was not aware of, like the shape of indexes and the bright window of the date.

Let's focus on my feeling.

I tried only the 38 mm models, both strap and bracelet; 41 is definitely too big for my wrist.

The watch has its unique and unparalleled design, Octo is impossibile to mistake with other watches; a big plus in an overcrowded market of integrated bracelet watches.

The multi-faceted case reminds me a tank, but because it's already a Cartier's model, the perfect nickname might be Turtle

The Blue dial, soleil probably, shifts from light blue to dark blue, accordingly to the light incidence.

The new Octo Roma was a complete surprise, because the design is more slender, due to the different shape of lugs.

After looking at it for a while, it reminded me the shape of Daniel Roth.

The main difference between them is in the case back, but if i had to choose one today, i'd be in a real trouble.

The anthracite dial is likely the most readable, with Roma design less overwhelming.

Did you also look at the Finissimo? Best E.

But Finissimo in titanium, with its microrotor movement, should be compared to the iconic watches like RO15202 and PP 5711. Finissimo IMHO is even better than the new VC overseas. Indeed a superb watch. This time I didn't try it because I need models with...

I know you're the Finissimo man πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ Unfortunately my wallet has shrunk, so octo 38mm is in my wish list. Alone, so far, no other real contenders I'm waiting for you to show us the minute repeater πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Ciao amico mio,

Unfortunately I β€˜m not yet a Finissimo man, working on it and maybe found a solution, hopefully I will be able to see it next week in Milan... We share the same problems: thin wrist and even thinner wallet!!! So in any case NO minute repeater for me, but ...

I would agree

...and that’s why I’m wearing mine right now πŸ˜„ I do think it’s a future classic - and the effort shown by Bulgari is paying off. The new gold and steel versions will do well and the MR and ridiculously thin new tourbillon are hero models but the titanium ...

I will, because I'll be there soon πŸ˜‰

And was surprised to see them open as most all shops there were closed for the holiday. Didn't go in, but it is a really lovely shop and I was taken aback by the new offerings from Bulgari. Certainly give the competition a run for their money.
