Here is what my AD told me about dates (in general not about the 5177):
1 out of 10 customers will not buy the watch because of the date ; 3 out of 10 will not care whether there is a date or not ; 6 out of 10 will not buy the watch if it has no date So I guess that in this forum we are a bit of a special crowd
In principle it's understandable: the date is a useful complication (even if less and less since we have phones, etc., like in a sense we can argue that a watch is no longer "necessary" to tell time :-)

You’ve got 3 master pieces that each one by themselves carries a part of the breguet legacy and history. How can that be “small”. I call it a perfect reflection of a brand
Wow! What a trio.
Strange that Breguet doesn’t get as much adulation as say AP or VC. This trio says it all. The quality just pops out of the screen. I often think about picking up your version of the 5817, but now I have two more to seriously consider!

That's a really high quality trio! Too bad this brand is so underrated as some of its production is very impressive...
Love the white enamel dial the most, a blue 5177 would indeed be an excellent fourth entry in this collection (even though I frankly cannot conceive its date at 3 o'clock...it's one of the most egregious I've seen on an otherwise fantastic dial! ;-)
