Since I’m a fan of negative space on a dial, this Breguet is likely my ideal dressy watch

One of the things that attract me to the Bathyscaphe models are the small indices with expansive dials; it just works to my eyes versus some ‘maxi’ type indices here. I’ve also been a big fan of the Breguet 5727 shown here since it’s release. Like the Blancpain, I now realize it’s the negative space on this one that also draws me in.

Now I’m not saying I’m planning to get down to a two-watch collection, but perhaps if I were, these two would be great deal for me…….

(and yes, this navel gazing is now getting me to research finding a 5727 to call my own) 🤣 😉

The 5727 indeed has much charme and with this open dial a certain … generosity. It attracts me more than the 5717. What do you think of the Breguet Musicale which falls in the same category? It’s still on my wishlist. And of course my IWC Minute Repeater ...

I've said it before and bears repeating (or minute repeating in your case!), we have really similar tastes it seems. Your minute repeaters is a long-time favorite of mine going back well over 15 years or so, I may finally endulge one day. Another nice thi...

I never thought about it. I think about 3D regularly. Layers. Your Blancpain have the date on an odd place. Shall i say, the El Primero way? To not open a date window discussion, your Blancpain was better if Blancpain had took the less is more option. Bre...

Thanks, it is neat how manufactures like Breguet can layer dials using different techniques

Regarding my Blancpain, I started collecting in the mid-90s and was a big fan of the Zenith El Primeros with their date of 4:30, so to my eye, it doesn't look out of place as I was indoctrinated to Zenith's design. Besides, as much as a 'clean' dial on th...

That Breguet is very appealing to me eye too.

The negative space, something it took me years to evolve too, is definitely a look I’m drawn to now. As Spangles said, the guilloche brings a lot to that negative space.

Agreed, and it didn't come naturally to me at first either.

You often hear someone lament something like "too much empty space, like a billboard", to which I often just think, "yes, yes it is. lovely". Everyone sees something a little different in life, as in horology, and I'm really come to appreciate this partic...
