I put my 5817 on my winder (12 minutes CW, 12 minutes CCW, and then stop 3 hours, then repeat cycle). It seemed to run fine. And I didn't wear it over the holidays, so it stayed on the winder for 2 weeks.
Now, what I am ashamed to say is that I thought the 5817 was Bi-directional. It's not; it's CCW. I hope I didn't damage the watch, since I was told that winding a CCW watch on a winder rotating bi-directonally would not be good for the watch (??) Anybody know about this?
Anyway, my last comment is that cheap winders (be they Chinese or otherwise) are not the problem per se. It's only that I've found the cheaper ones offer a limited range of winding options that might not be suitable (good) for the types of watches we have. For example, I found one that winds CW 15 min. and CCW 15 min. in this cycle all day long, never stopping. This is the classic type of winder to avoid since I assume it would overstress the watch, never giving it time to "unwind". This winder's only other setting was to run 15 min one way/15min they other repating this for 12 hours and then stopping for 12 hours, and starting the repetition again. I think this is still too hard on the watch. So, the idea is to be sure your watch winder works with your watch's movement but does not ovestress the watch either.
