Apropos 3-wheel clock: James Ferguson and Benjamin Franklin

James Ferguson (1710-1776) in Ferguson's 1773 book: Select Mechanical Exercises: Shewing how to construct different Clocks, Orreries, and Sun-Dials, on Plain and Easy Principles, … describes a 3-wheel clock invented by Benjamin Franklin circa 1758 though never made per se by the printer. Enclosed is a 3-wheel clock (circa 2018?) based on Benjamin Franklin's design as accounted by James Ferguson by Nigel Climpson of Cornwall but with grasshopper-escapement.

A curious footnote on page 233 of Ebenezer Henderson's Life of James Ferguson FRS ( Edinburgh, London, Glasgow 1867) quips the Franklin clock ( a curiosity of horology ) is " rendered almost unfit for general use ". ...
