Regarding my Blancpain, I started collecting in the mid-90s and was a big fan of the Zenith El Primeros with their date of 4:30, so to my eye, it doesn't look out of place as I was indoctrinated to Zenith's design. Besides, as much as a 'clean' dial on the Bathscaphe would be neat, I really need a date window to refer to throughout the day.

The 5727 indeed has much charme and with this open dial a certain … generosity. It attracts me more than the 5717. What do you think of the Breguet Musicale which falls in the same category? It’s still on my wishlist. And of course my IWC Minute Repeater ...

The negative space, something it took me years to evolve too, is definitely a look I’m drawn to now. As Spangles said, the guilloche brings a lot to that negative space.
