Thanks for your input petr but I wear my watches everyday and not to be hangar queens or sit in a box

A friend of mine is an avid golf player, even when he plays golf he wears his daytona with the 4130 a much better movement than the piguet 1185 and which dwarfs it on all levels. No matter how good walt odets review of the f1185 is, fact is that the f1185 is not made to be used under rough or intense sportive activities. Another guy I know participates in trail an enduro MTB competitions while wearing a breitling chronomat B01, here too no signs of weaknesses. The el primero was tested back then in 1970 at the landing gear of concorde and some years ago by Felix Baumgartner.
For me robustness in adversary conditions and under rough use/activities is a mandatory but I don't see myself buying a watch that I have to baby and not even take outdoors.

Think about buying a Blancpain FF Chrono Flyback

Your thoughts about the watch?

as much as its nice I am a little bit concerned by the frederic piguet 1185 chronograph movement fragility and overall durability powering it

Frederic Piguet makes nice aesthetically and well finished movements but certainly not the most robust. Omega with the 33xx-36xx which were in fact based on the Frederic Piguet 1285 Edition Speciale de luxe suffered from its fragility and which is now onl...

Don't forget to add the Glashütte Original cal. 37 to this list.

Most robust chronograph movement I have seen si far. And it offers a full bag of features. Best, Martin

Fact is that almost none wears an AP for golfing, enduro mtb riding or playing tennis. The Royal Oak is a dress watch before all

Also back in 2002, I have read several horror stories regarding the fp 1185 in the Blancpain Monaco Yachting series of chronographs. The frederic piguet 1185 is the thinnest automatic chrono movement available but I wouldn't consider it as extremely rugge...

Don't know about that

but I have a Leman chronograph with zero issues. Best Kari

maybe you are lucky and that you don't use your leman as daily beater or for extreme sports like golfing, mtb racing or tennis playing

There was also back in the past some reports stating regarding the 1185 where the rotor unscrewed itself in case of strong shocks and under rough use.

Thank you all very much for your comments and the whole discussion.

As I understand the movement can be very delicate. Tried to find something in the net but failed. Anyway I am very careful with all of my watches and would never wear during sports, carwash etc. Had never any trouble with a movement.

Also the JLC chronograph

The JLC cal 751 has been reliable in my experience. I also had problems with an Omega 3313.

the omega 3313 like the 3301, 3303 and the 3603 were not made for rough use and were built by Frederic Piguet

Piguet movement won't handle a rough activity like enduro MTB ride or golfing with a very strong swing or tennis. Plus the problem with the chrono reseting system and the fact that the rotor could unscrew himself in case of rough activities is a reason wh...

+1: never had any problems with any of F. Piquet movements in my Blancpains

But have to admit that for sports, I prefer my polar. - Actually, once when I was lazy to take of my Leman big date when working in my weekend house, the KIF (or whatever) spring lock protection functioned properly, and a jewel from the balance wheel shaf...

Interesting how different priorities can be...

.. whilst I certainly respect yours, mine for example have no tolerance for not adequately resetting chrono hands ( had this with two Daytona) or a jumping chrono start ( also Daytona). With a fine watch I expect refinement in aesthetics and function. Wha...

Actually it is not the 1185...

 By: shortys home : July 20th, 2017-03:35
it's a high frequency 5Hz chrono movement with 322 parts, 50h power reserve and 31.8/6.65mm in size. So clearly not the 1185 or F185. Cheers Henrik

OK thanks for the clarification [nt]

A while back I posted on my experience with the Bathyscaphe chrono in the BP forum

You might want to have a read; especially if you intend to use the chronograph regularly. It's definitely a great looking watch though!

I have seen your post and put it forward to some Blancpain representatives...

Hi Henrik,

Great to know yours are working fine! I must admit that the chronograph function is indeed less used by most so I'm the outlier! Please do keep me updated on your findings if any. Nevertheless a watch should function as advertised.. That aside I must say ...

No golf

Reading the discussion I might add that playing golf wearing a mechanical watch is asking for trouble with any watch (except a Rolex maybe) I am an avid golfer and watch collector but whichever watch I'm wearing, it will go in my bag until I'm finished. I...
