So I heard

If heard more people say that Blancpain and keeping (let alone increase) in value over time is a contradictio in termino.

I’m not a person who sells and buys vintage or worn watches, so far all watches save one we’re bought new

Lately however I just out of curiosity started to look at the auctions and at Chrono24.

Remarkably this steel version sells for higher value now than what I paid approx 5-6 years ago.

And when I look at the Blancpain FF Fantoms Bathyscape Chrono it’s the same thing: on average they go higher than what I paid

With the Bathyscape I perhaps could understand why: limited edition and numbered etc.
With the Villeret steel I was highly surprised had anticipated some serious devaluation.

But then again, it’s like owning stock; the perceived change in value is an “unrealized loss or gain” only once you sell it then the value deviation becomes manifest

(Yeah yeah for the bean counters among us, I know stock portfolios must be valued quarterly and potential gains or losses must be reflected and thus may cause real cash gains or misses subject to profit taxation and the likes)

But anyway, it’s just curiosity I started looking coz reality is that these watches will not be sold until owned by the next generation haha
