Opinions on Villeret vs Leman

Ok, so I’ve always kind of wondered while perusing the watches at the Blancpain boutique in NYC while getting straps/clasps for my Leman Flyback why the company decided to axe the Leman line when to me, the Villeret line doesn’t seem as appealing. To me, the Villeret looks similar to the Leman except that the very features that make it great looking are not as pronounced. The double stepped bezel is smaller, the crown is smaller…the watch just looks more feminine and delicate whereas the Leman looks bolder and of more substance while still extremely stylish.

While in the store, I’ve even heard of another customer ask if he could still purchase an Aqualung. I immediately commented out loud that yes, I wish they still produced the Leman line of watches. There were people looking at the Fifty Fathoms line of watches there but no one glancing really at the Villerets (except me, as I was curious). Do they even sell? I’m curious. Ok, so this is not to disparage owners of the Villeret. I do see the aesthetic beauty and simplicity of these watches as well, but honestly rarely see people on watch forums post them or ever see them in public so I very curious why Blancpain continues to push that line while discontinuing the Leman which at one point was very popular. Has the Villeret ever been very popular? Thoughts?

I ask myself the same question: why did they discontinue the Leman line. But I’m afraid if they bring it back the watches will be some 42mm monstrosities or worse. ...

Very nice Leman

I agree, it would be bad if they reintroduced it in 42mm or larger but I think 39 or 40 would be perfect, and they should do it across all the different variants.

Myself, I don’t like the Roman numerals on the Villeret.

I don’t like them at all. I find them busy and out of context. But I don’t like them in Rolex, either.

Agree, it is more sophisticated

I just don’t see the larger public seeing as much interest in the Villeret. My thought is that if they used the Leman case for those variant models, it would be more popular. The trend is for more sporty and robust while still high style (eg. Fifty Fathom...

The Villeret line is nothing else then a pure dress watch

and the Leman was already an extremely versatile watch back in the 90s with a wide variety of complications paired with 100m water resistance and 100h power reserve

I cannot explain it

The Leman hit such a nice classy-sporty spot that many of us appreciated more than the Villeret's slightly cold dressiness. But beyond that, the case shape on the Leman is just nicer: prettier swoopier curves, more distinctive bezel.

I’m a huge fan.

Of the Leman line, especially 38mm, since I have a small wrist. I just came across a couple of steel case blue dial models (coming up for auction) that I never knew existed. ...
