Last flight + air show at your request
Aug 06, 2019,05:26 AM
This one was taken when I made one last low pass during my very last flight.
Just come in low, over the runway go even lower (talking 20 ft), maintain relatively speed (approx 360 Nm/hr)
Then at the end of the runway kick in full afterburner and pull it slight up and roll towards the cameras.
Reason why you have to maintain slow speed until end of the runway is because when you kick in the afterburner, that huge cigarette lighter kicks in in 5 stages within 0.4 sec.
The acceleration is really incredible. Like 5 giant kicks in the butt within half a second and only 2-3 seconds later you’re speed is 560 Nm/hr
And you better make sure that you pull back the throttle whithin seconds (while in meantime you went from 1g to 9g’s) otherwise you’ll break 650 very quickly meaning that in a circle of 2-3 miles, all windows will be gone (sound barrier)
The other picture wasn’t me flying but a demo team of the UAE Airforce during an air show in the UAE
They made a flyby, pulled up and hit the smoke dispensers in the colors of the national flag of the UAE
And by pure coincidence (I could claim it was the camera man’s eye but I’d be lying) there was an A380 of EMIRATES Airlines on ground display which made the smoke trails like an extension of the tail of the A380

Your comment about easing off the throttles quickly reminded me of a story told to me by our Uncle Brownie, where he fell behind his wingman and after hitting his afterburners trying to catch up, shot past at 100’s of miles an hour faster. Oops. You might...

Yep that happened to all of us I’m afraid haha I’ll read the story with great interest. And the nice thing is, although I’m Dutch, I did serve 7 years as an instructor pilot, later check pilot and flight commander in the United States Airforce and till to...

I just read your part 1; recognized every single word in it. Especially where he said min altitude was 500ft but most of time he flew at 200 When is was based in the Netherlands we did exactly same over Germany I also still remember the big “simulated” at...
