Joy of discovery...

Yesterday I visited my AD to pick up my ordered new strap for my PP 5146G. It was the wrong colour. The delivery time for the correct strap would be 3 - 4 months (sic!). I declined with thanks and ordered a strap from another brand. Handmade in top quality.

And I decided not to invest my money in a new PP perpetual calendar with also a very, very long waiting time. Ok. This was and is a real emotional decision. But 1. buying a mechanical watch in these times is just emotional and not rational and 2. I don’t want to spend a huge amount of hard earned money to be treated like a petitioner who has to wait humbly months or years. I know. It’s a question of supply and demand. But nobody can be forced to take part in this game.

The Piaget Emperador Coussin Perpetual Calendar I was searching for isn’t available anymore.

So I told my AD that I was searching again for a nice perpetual calendar.

Today my AD sent me the photo of an ... alternative. It had just arrived.

I hardly dare to say it here. It was not my first choice. It was not even on my radar.

But it was love at first sight and I have to see it in flesh as soon as possible!

The 6656-3642-55b was unveiled at Baselworld 2018 and is a real stunner with some very interesting features (silicon hairspring, 40mm case, lacquered dial, pushers under the lugs, 72 hours power reserve etc.).

Perhaps this will be my final choice?

I have no personal experience with Blancpain. So have to gather all information I can get. Henrik showed us some impressions a few days ago.

Can you help me please? What’s your opinion about this watch? How reliable is the brand? What are your service experiences?

Many thanks in advance, Thomas

P.S.: I m on fire...

I have had a number of Blancpain watches and the quality and service has always been second to none. One really nice touch with their Quantieme Calendars and Perpetual watches is

the under lug correctors that are hidden from view. They only need a finger to use and an added safety feature means that you can't damage the watch when adjusting the date at any time. Just brilliant and the dial is absolutely stunning ! Here's a picture...

Thanks a lot for your fast response, Will!

Your experience is very helpful for me. Your Quantieme Complet looks marvelous. Especially the third picture is fantastic! Have you sold your other Blancpains? Thank you again, Thomas

I have my fifty fathoms bathyscaphe Thomas, and did have the MilSpec which I needed to sell to get my Breguet Grail. I'm sure that Shortys Home will respond as well.

He is the most knowledgeable Blancpain aficionado that I know. The great thing about Blancpain is that, unlike other brands, they fly under the radar so you get something very special that not everyone is wearing and you are not paying the ridiculous bran...

brand premiums AND ridiculous (artificial inflated?) waiting times. 🙄 Yes, Blancpain seems to be something very special and for sure no second choice! All the best, Thomas

That is a watch with a lot of character

I too will be interested to hear more about the aftersales service as for me that is more important than the initial purchase. I read here some time ago about a problem with the service of a Fifty Fathoms, not sure how common that is. Blacpain seems like ...

Totally agree!

In this anachronistic field of high emotional desires and decisions the overall experience is of fundamental importance! Some brands have recognized this, some not. ☺️ Best, Thomas

Yesterday I had the chance to visit my AD between two appointments in order to have a look at the Villeret Quantieme Perpetuel in RG. The watch felt quite big on the wrist. Bigger than for example the 40mm case of my DD40 I wore at this day. Due to narrow...

Indeed, dear Nico!

A good alternative. First choice. And thank you for your comment. Do you remember how long the repair works took? And when did the problem occur? Shortly after your purchase? Cheers, Thomas
