It was really hard to resist...

but I managed to leave my AD without this beauty. Yesterday.

The prize tag compared to the new 40mm 1151 based Villeret Quantieme Perpetuel is ... hefty. IMHO you get much more for your money compared for example to a PP but it is ... hefty.

So I am nearly about to pull the trigger but will have to let some watches go to fund this project. Watches which turned out to have become safe queens during the last months.

But that’s anyhow consistent with my „master plan“ to develop my collection to less watches at a higher quality level which I will be able to wear intensely. Less is more!

But now to the Blancpain Villeret Quantieme Perpetuel 8 Jours in 42 mm in RG with white Grand Feu enamel dial (6659-3631-55b) which I had the chance - and luck - to put on my wrist yesterday.

Yes, it is a big watch, but the the 42mm case still wears nicely and easily on my 16,5 - 17cm wrist. This wearability is also owed to the congenial conical shape of the case and its short lugs. The watch came with an alligator strap and a very sophisticated deployant buckle.

The white enamel dial with its soft, creamy touch and its hand painted roman numerals and markers is gorgeous and adds a lot to the character of this watch.
The dial seems huge (it felt much more than 42mm!) due to the narrow bezel. Which is a very smart solution IMHO.
There are no windows cutting the very harmonious dial which has a soft, creamy touch.

The gold dot at 12 which for some might look disturbing worked very harmonious for me and is a good idea since they could not paint a „XII“ up there because of the month subdial. Perhaps they could have made this dot slightly larger?

The small second hand right under the moon indicator is a nice solution not to have a „dead dial“ which for me is very practical.

The readability of the dial was very good in daylight. I didn’t have the chance to test how the dial works in various light conditions. But it will be not „breathtaking“ in dark environments the markers and hands have no luminous material.

The base of the automatic movement is the 1315 with a titanium balance and 8 days power reserve seems to be made at a very high level. For me a PR of 172 hours is a big plus for a perpetual calendar when - after the first intense honeymoon - you want to rotate your watches again.

The under-lug correctors which make the case elegant, clean and reduced are also a big benefit. I cannot understand why a modern watch case has to feature corrector holes in its case band in 21st century? Those four correctors make it very easy to adjust the calendar and are blocked during the time the calendar changes in order not to damage the mechanism. The WR 30m is not intoxicating. 100m should be the standard norm for modern watches. IMHO.

The whole watch (dial, case, movement, strap, deployment buckle) seems to have an exceptional finishing. So far I could detect it since - as you might see on the pics - it was still wrapped in a razor-thin plastic foil.

This watch is very tempting, and I have to think a lot now. Is this THE watch? Which watch(es) will have to go to fund this purchase?

Thanks for reading and have a nice Sunday!

Thomas
