Blancpain flashback : Peking To Paris

The Peking to Paris motor race was an automobile race, originally held in 1907, between Peking (now Beijing), then Qing China and Paris, France, a distance of 14,994 kilometres.
The idea for the race came from a challenge published in the Paris newspaper Le Matin on 31 January 1907, reading:
"What needs to be proved today is that as long as a man has a car, he can do anything and go anywhere. Is there anyone who will undertake to travel this summer from Peking to Paris by automobile?"
The race started from the French embassy in Peking on 10 June 1907. The winner Prince Scipione Borghese arrived in Paris on 10 August 1907.

Blancpain, the title sponsor in 2007 of the Peking to Paris classic car rally, was privileged to honor the two most courageous race participants, Timothey Scott and Peter Livanos, with a really special gift. Both participants were awarded with a Blancpain Leman Time Zone watch, the timepiece created specially for globetrotters.
‘Peking to Paris’ 2007 has become the third edition only of the classic car race, initially held one hundred yeas ago, in 1907. In 2007 the 130 participants departed from China on the 1st of June, driving their vintage cars. Thirty-five days later the 105 survivors enjoyed the triumph of crossing the finishing line on the Place Vendome in Paris.

For this special rally Blancpain released two watches, ref 2885FB-1130-63B in red and ref 2885FC-1130-63B in yellow, both limited to 134 pieces. The watch was equipped wit caliber 69F8 running at 28.800 featuring a power reserve of 38h. The caliber comprises of 382 parts.

While released almost 12 years ago, the watch is still very appealing today featuring the grande date and the
very loud rotor design.

Prince Scipione Borghese, however Ettore Guizardi, the prince's chauffeur did most of the driving. LOL

Thanks, Maltie, for the flashback...
