Watches & Wonders 2020: IWC Schaffhausen presents three new versions of the Portugieser Chronograph

Apr 24, 2020,16:59 PM

An open, clear and functionally designed dial with two recessed totalisers at 6 o’clock and 12 o’clock, appliqued Arabic numerals and slim feuille hands: These are the design cues that have made the Portugieser Chronograph (Ref. 3716) one of IWC’s most successful models. But equally responsible for giving the watch its unique character is the flange, which features a printed quarter-second scale. It not only allows precise reading of stop times but also gives this timeless Portugieser the qualities of a nautical instrument. The two stainless steel styles are equipped with a newly developed butterfly folding clasp, which is particularly comfortable to wear.

Ref. IW371614 Boutique Edition: 18-carat 5N gold case, blue dial, gold-plated hands, 18-carat gold appliques, blue alligator leather strap.

Older versions (also automatic) used to be 12.5mm thick...

...now they are 13.1mm. Is this progress?

Hmm... Any new blue dial with steel case?

A blue dial might look good!

I do love the green and burgundy dial variations....,

...but on the other hand I am not so sure whether these colours are a great match to the somewhat austere Portuguese look.
