I'm pretty certain I'm priced out of Porsches nowadays. The GT3s are getting too expensive for me. The Cayman GT4 RS is a cool machine, but at $180K plus tax and license for my configuration, I'm too close to the Lamborghini territory (and the Lamborghini is very reliable too as it's 20% an Audi). I keep on telling myself, I'm a terrible 911 driver. I don't get back onto the gas pedal fast enough. I'm just too used to mid-engine or front engine cars, where you only start pressing the gas pedal after the apex of the turn and you're already straightening out. Conceptually, I know how to drive a 911. But in actuality, I just can't do it that well. I can't wait for a 500 hp RWD electric Porsche! Hopefully they can make it light with all those batteries! Has to be under 3300 pounds or 1500kg.

Well the RS just dropped today..

Interesting that the base went up like $40k from the previous generation. I guess Porsche is thinking if people are paying x amount over MSRP they might as well cash in as well. Waiting to get the call to configure mine. This literally is a race car no do...

Unless going to track

I'd keep your speedster and turbo s. Obviously the new hot thing for porsche, but not the prettiest IMO(nor is that the point). Do share your spec

For sure..

 By: TeutonicCarFan : August 17th, 2022-21:36
If adding then definitely do so. I would keep those two for the reasons you listed. You mention turbo s for kids... that is why I don't have a gt3. Last September I was up to order one at local dealer, decline because no rear seats and my kids love to tak...

Yea unfortunately inventory is low as you know, unless you're willing to pay and that's always a hard pill to swallow.

 By: jp884 : August 17th, 2022-21:47
Honestly, I can't recommend a better car than the TTS or TT for all around enjoyment. Especially with the kids.

Love tts.

Would not replace my m2 competition unless manual. This new rs is cool- I have never seen adjustment for compression and rebound for the suspension in the dash. Differential, too

The M2 is a great car as well probably roomier than the TTS which is a bonus.

 By: jp884 : August 17th, 2022-23:21
Manual is great if you don't have a lot of hills and traffic. But I loathe a manual in that scenario, would prefer a PDK. But open roads I can row gears all day every day.

The last 4-5 hours have been spent on trying to wrap my head around this thing.

It looks way too aggressive! I never imagined myself saying such a thing, but that car is for track use only at this point. I meant, the wing sits higher than the car !!!! 🤯🤯🤯 It looks like a rattlesnake before attack For those who have the financial mean...

Thanks Hussam.

 By: jp884 : August 17th, 2022-21:04
It definitely is a wing connected to a car. Got the text from my dealer saying they should know allocation by next month. Of course they have to go through the 918 guys first then the rest of us get to hurry up and wait. It's pretty aggressive not going t...

Have you seen the video on the Porsche website?

 By: jp884 : August 17th, 2022-21:05
Just watching that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up

No if I pull the trigger it will be primarily for the track.

 By: jp884 : August 17th, 2022-21:12
I have other good cars for the roads this is too much for city roads IMO.

Excellent choice, then!

 By: amanico : August 17th, 2022-21:15

No just lessons. Not even good but I like speed👍

 By: jp884 : August 17th, 2022-21:24
You would be surprised how controllable these cars are. The faster you go the more downforce it produces and the more the car sticks especially on hot roads. It’s not like the old RS cars that would break loose and it required an amazing driver to control...

That’s good enough, I bet.

Lapis blue 996 gt2

 By: TeutonicCarFan : August 17th, 2022-21:34
Phenomenal and rare bird there!

Indeed! Thanks my friend.

 By: jp884 : August 17th, 2022-21:39
Those old GT2 cars will kill you if you don't know how to handle them. When you stomp on it. It's like 1;1000 2:1000 and boost! Latent kick that if you're coming around a bend you'll shoot off the road like a rocket. We have this friend that tracks his ol...

Indeed, the 996 GT2 is the official widow maker and was named so in our press very quickly due to so many deadly accidents on german roads

 By: penfriend : August 18th, 2022-15:44
In the late 90ies I drove the 959 and although being an AWD it was horrible on wet roads. Gave it away rather quickly for safety reasons - at that time one could not expect its "investment potential"...

Indeed who could have predicted it?

 By: jp884 : August 18th, 2022-15:54
For the longest time I kicked stones on whether or not I should buy the Carrera GT well now that ship has sailed. The 959 was and is a gorgeous car but like you said, " we didn't know the investment potential". Fortunately, my father is a lightfoot so its...

Hehehe! ;)

 By: amanico : August 20th, 2022-06:17

Very cool! At this price though I wonder if it makes sense to get a dedicated race car like a GT4 clubsport.

 By: Fastwong : August 17th, 2022-22:33
The GT4 clubsport will actually be cheaper, safer, faster, and easier then the GT3rs to run on the track though of course you'd lose the vin and street driving option. It was probably an easier decision when the GT3rs was more street friendly and the GT4 ...

Correct on all counts..

 By: jp884 : August 17th, 2022-22:39
The appeal here is you don't need a trailer to go to the track. Drive to the track, track and drive home. Or if you wanted some spirited mountain runs, you could do it in the RS. Or if you wanted to have a picnic, drive to the park and use the wing as a t...

Effin awesome 👏

🏎🏎🏎🏎🏎

 By: jp884 : August 18th, 2022-00:47

Well according to my dealership he thinks delivery will begin Q2/Q3 of next year.

 By: jp884 : August 18th, 2022-00:49
With that massive cargo ship going down this year carrying all those Porsches. That pushed everything back a quarter or two.

If I decide to pull the trigger it will be a pretty basic build.

 By: jp884 : August 18th, 2022-14:58
Because if I get it I’m devoting it to track duty so I’m not going nuts. Probably go with the white and red color scheme and AC and front axle lift.

On a normal road, you will look probably like an idiot…

 By: dedestexhes : August 18th, 2022-05:20
On the track you will be the king (with the right driving skills 😀) Dirk

Oh you’ll see these on the normal road.

 By: jp884 : August 18th, 2022-14:53
I won’t be driving it but you’ll see them.

I agree

 By: dedestexhes : August 18th, 2022-15:03
And my statement was meant to be a bit ironic. I’m sure a lot of them will never be pushed to the limit on a race track. And to be honest, I think my driving skills are far from being able to cope with such a machine! Enjoy yours in the future! Dirk

For sure, that's how a lot of them are right now.

 By: jp884 : August 18th, 2022-15:20
They get driven to cars and coffee but never anywhere else. I just nod my head and think what a shame when I see that. These cars are precision instruments that need to be driven not stored. One of my good buddies used to be a professional cup car racer. ...

A very cool machine... I'm expecting to see it tomorrow!

 By: patrick_y : August 18th, 2022-06:31
This is the kind of machine I'd want for my drive! But at that price!!! And no trunk! I want the semi-active aero and the double wishbone front suspension. But since this engine is so similar as the one in the Cayman GT4 RS, that one might be the better v...

The only individual throttle bodies that I am aware of :

 By: jp884 : August 18th, 2022-13:49
Is in the RSR and Speedster.

I see. I was hoping that the GT3 RS would get it. Although I think I'm priced out...

I believe all the GT3/GT4rs engines have the ITB. These went in at the same time as the GPFs so it is part of the engine package, the ITBs add back the hp lost by the GPFs.

 By: Fastwong : August 19th, 2022-15:31
One thing I miss about the old BMW M engines was the ITBs, the difference in throttle response was notable. In a perfect world I'd love to see what a GT4ress would be like with a manual transmission and straight through exhaust, I bet it would be soooooo ...

I stand corrected..

 By: jp884 : August 19th, 2022-17:09
The 992 does appear to have ITBs haven’t really researched on the new model.

I’m not so sure if it’s inflation or if Porsche is pushing the envelope.

 By: jp884 : August 18th, 2022-14:55
They are starting to go well into Ferrari territory and people keep paying. They can’t make them fast enough. I think Porsche is sort of trying to see where the limit it is both financially and operatively on their cars.

Porsche knows we're looking at the last gen of cars without electrification, they can charge whatever they want unfortunately 😥

 By: Fastwong : August 19th, 2022-17:40
We would never have seen the GT4rs if it wasn't because this is the last hurrah for the Cayman AND the 911 as we know them.

I can maybe do a hybrid but go full electrical and I’m out..

 By: jp884 : August 19th, 2022-22:27
I’ll only chase the Old ICE cars at that point. Trying to get a few to hold me over if/when that happens.

Looking forward to see your spec 🤗

Yes. Please share the details.

My wife and I were walking last week when I heard a car. She asked if it was broken. It was a GT3 RS!

That is SO true..

 By: jp884 : August 18th, 2022-16:00
When I first bought my 991 RS I took a buddy out and as we were leaving my street. He was like Stop, Stop I think you're dragging something. I quickly laughed, what he was hearing and referring to was the fly wheel which sounded like a bunch of marbles in...

very racy look

ugly functional wing yet succesfully make the car looks smaller and tossable
