Vinnie: compared to more recent cars

the RS feels truly ancient. It is unstable at high speeds just as the 2.4T was. No noticeable effect of better high speed stability due to the ducktail. Acceleration was brisk of course but without the punch, for instance, of a 3.3 Turbo when the turbo kicks in. You better have a straight road in front of you then. In the old days we would take out her 2.7 RS and my 300 SL Gullwing together and - believe it or not - on German Autobahns the GW was by far a more relaxing car to drive at speeds north of 200 km/h than the RS. You just had to watch out to not have to hit the brakes smile. Today her high speed cruiser is a 1997 W 140 V8 Merc. - so much more stable at high speeds than any rear engined car that she has put more than 200K miles on it. And for those Swiss Alpine mountain roads on a sunny day, it's back to a 1962 300 SL that we have kept since it arrived a few weeks later than that 2.7 RS. We do anticipate that with a new German govenment by years end the era of unlimited Autobahns will come to an end. Then - without legal high.speed kicks - a simpler vintage Porsche might be a nice toy to run on the back roads again but it really does not have to be an RS. The 2 decades with it were nice in the day, but we don't understand the hype and today's prices. As a toy, we would probably go for the 365 SC that started my wife's journey with Porsches in 1972. By the way, I still like her too - in a few weeks we will have done 4 decades of marriage with no end in sight...smile

Vinnie, your 911 is awesome. Original Fuchs wheels are the cherry on the cake. The engine bay is making engine sound trough my screen. Compare to the TVR of a few days ago, your Porsche is definitely the winner of the two cars. Here a Porsche picture: ...

unfortunately none of these cars are mine

I was ones in a 911 seat on a track. I know how great the 911 is. The sound was not that heavy, it was the performance that opened my eyes. So if the opportunity is there, a Porsche is more than a beautiful outside look. It goes so fast, i luv it. ❤️

That is a honest reply

Saw this in my wife's garage every day for 20 years (1977-1997)! It was an "upgrade" from the vipergreen 2.4 "T" (1974-77) that she took very good care of - as you can see Cheers from Old Europe RIchard ...

I like your wife

Nice automotive memories that you have accumulated... life is too short to drive boring cars as they say

That Gullwing is a dream, so much new tech from the time. When I visited the Stuttgart museum about 30 years ago, the Mercedes guide asked our group what our favourite car was: I was the only one to mention the GW and he nodded appreciatively. I assume it...
