Something to roll your eyes - a conversation for the appropriate sponsoring managers? 😁🇳🇴

Some time ago we seemed to have spent the night in the same hotel as some alpine skiing teams. When leaving in the morning I just glanced at the sponsors of the Norwegian team, as they were nicely displayed on the team van.

Having two tire manufacturers (Yokohama and Pirelli) as sponsors is unusual to start off with. Even better, the tires on the van were from neither of the two 😂 I would have some serious questions for the respective sponsoring managers, was I to represent one of the two entities 😉🤦🏻‍♂️

Having more sponsors from the same category tends to be rare to start off with but the execution leaves a lot to be desired even so 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

I see KPMG…

The tire sponsors can consider engaging the firm to do an audit😂

Not sure sponsoring is their specialty…

But then again I suppose deep subject matter expertise is not required in this particular case 😂

Be kind, as Audi can't get the better Michelin tyres as sponsors.

So Audi, perhaps in frustration, now has to use two other brands in hopes of competing against the far superior Michelin tyre technology.

They do a very good studded winter tire…

But their soft compound is only average 😊 As Norway is actively moving away from studded tires, Michelin would most likely not be a top three choice…

Had quite good results with Blizzak in 12" or so snow piloting the Bentley. Not racing, no, yet there were many days the smiles lasted many miles.

Enjoy your take on automotive experiences and your road trips, always a pleasure to read Guess they have to replace tyres all sorts of places, and they probably have to pick what's available every now and then? Neither of the 2 sponsors would be my first ...

I understand your availability argument…

But that should largely be limited to single tires when one cannot get anything else. A sponsor should certainly ensure that this is immediately remedied and that correct tires are fitted, though. Here it was all four 😊 As for Hakka, they are very solid s...

Would probably swap pairs, but yeah, you are right. Have only used studded Nokians, and agree soft compound is a different ballgame. I wouldn't use studded "winners" as an basis for selecting soft compound, they are too different for that to ever make sen...

As for Turkey…

The East around Lake Kars could be right out of lower Siberia - you can even have driving events on frozen lakes 😁 Most testing is still done in Sweden and Finnland, though. You have a reliable infrastructure (including hotels) and it’s easiest. For the r...
