In a distant galaxy a long time ago... we did a little exploration too

Not the same overall sophistication as a G-wagon, but the Jeepster Commando was about the best thing America had to offer in the 60's and 70's.

My "Rhino" so-called because of the spotlight on its nose, had 4x4, low-low transfer case, locking diff, twin fuel tanks wtih 40 gallons capacity, ramming bumpers, and trailer hitch receivers on 4 corners for pushing and pulling trailers out of tight spots.
The trailer hitch was the pintle hook variety, which allows independent rotation of the trailer and tow vehicle, so if one flips the other doesn't, etc. etc.

Enough talk, here are some photos:

Terrifying slopes where my wife walked down first and I crawled down in the Jeepster

Camping in Anza-Borrego desert

Protected camp out of the wind. The food box was normally in the trailer but could be moved to the backend of the Jeepster

Camping on the beach in Baja Mexico

Luxurious accomodation in the trailer with flip-down "real" mattresses (much better than on the ground, and dry too!)

Yahoo! driving down the river (creek / mudhole)

Taking my boss on a drive up in the mountains near our office

The special garage I built for the Jeepster and trailer

Pulling a trailer in parades

You may not have the Jeepster anymore, but you have all those memories and the photos. Thank for sharing them with us.

The river photo makes me think of Daktari — the film set in Africa with John Wayne.

It looks like you were living “big” in the day!

Those were the days, no masks in sight

Snow in the mountains or top down in the desert My wife reminded me why we sold it - no power steering and too hard for her to drive. She wanted something more civilized, so I bought this: an earlier Jeepster. V6, automatic, a show-winning piece. Claimed ...

Reminds me of the days when we pulled a fifth-wheel pop-up camper behind our Oldsmobile station wagon and drove it 3 weeks in south west US.

It is (or was) fun doing trips when we were young and foolish

I have a bit more reluctance to dash off into the wilderness nowadays. So our excursions tend to be horizontal and circling nice bodies of water... San Diego Harbor Mission Bay, looking for InDebtButOnTime on his rollerblades, or perhaps TimJ and his daug...

I would love to go out camping like this, everything about this is perfect. About the Jeepster, i don’t think i ever heard of this one , you should’ve kept it, but then ... can’t keep everything i guess 😁. You would need a barn the size of mine 😂. Filip ...
