I have two of those
They only work when connected to the battery and the wall socket at the same time.
Both of mine can be permanently connected to the battery with a intermediate quick-release in the middle of the line.
If you have multiple cars in multiple garages where you don't go every day (as I do) but where women are around all the time, the risk of unplugging is increased... :-(
