I asked a friend who raced this car how they got it to handle so well. I expected a comprehensive list of suspension and geometry changes. He said.... “Strap a block of lead under the front bonnet !”

You know the story of 901, the first 911 when he comes out. The car was too ligth in the front, so Porsche produced lead weigths for the front edges.

I dont remeber now, in the bumbers or under the head lights. You can find this parts in the Porsche part list. This is not a choke! I dont know how many years the cars came with this weigths, till the find a better solution.

To my be the entire engine towards the centre of the car !

Sure, behind the front axis like the Toyota GT 86 and also the Jaguar XJS, or in front of the rear axis.

So Porsche made the 914 with the motor in the middle, and when they make tests with the 914/6 (cylinders) they had to recongnize that the 911 has no chance on the circuit against this car. So after a small production from about 100 cars - i hope i remeber...

Same thing with Corvair

The rear flat 6 in a unibody made the car (especially convertibles) tail-heavy and very flexy so they put 100lbs of dampening weights on it (25 in each corner, housed in a can with thick oil) Not my car 😕 My car 🙂 Cazalea ...

Thanks for your answer Mike, i know this car but i dont know about the weigths. A very rustical solution! The Race Corvair looks very good!
