As others have noted, I wouldn't trade a watch I love -- something permanent -- for a **daily driver.** Your daily driver is destined to be driven into the ground, worn out, and recycled.
Conversely, if you're considering this 911 as an emotional choice of collector car to maintain for posterity, my opinion shifts in favor of making the deal. In that case, you likely have a collection of other watches to wear, but this might be your only collectible (i.e., second or third) car destined for long-term care. I love cars as much as I love watches, so I don't see a clear reason to avoid the car if it affords the same emotional outlet as your watches. You might even put it on collector car insurance for a fraction of the cost of insuring your daily ride.
All of our favorite cars from the past exist today at car shows and classic cruises only because enthusiasts with foresight chose to preserve those vehicles when they were unloved used cars; tomorrow's classics need to be embraced and loved today. That's why I believe that others here are in error to write that only a classic Porsche would warrant selling a watch. There was a time when 930s, 964s, and 993s were regarded as ratty old cars, outmoded, and irrelevant to collectors.
Also, if you want a 996, it's best to buy a fully-documented example now. The longer you wait, the more potential age-related problem areas need to be addressed before any given 996 can be added to your garage with a clean bill of health. With a 2001, make sure it's had the rear main seal and IMS replacements, and you're almost out of the woods.
Best,
Tim
