BMW ceases production of the i8

 By: cazalea : March 16th, 2020-06:59
The i8 was BMW’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle. BMW is ending production of the i8 sports car, six years after its introduction. The production version of the i8 was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt auto show and it went on sale in 2014. BMW freshened the ...

Hopefully it can be like discontinued SS Rolex and Patek, Lol However, I think for used prices in the $50-60k range, it looks really good. The car still looks great and got praises everywhere it goes. It’s futuristic design will stood the test of time.

About 20000 units...

The roadsters will be rare as it only produced for 2 years

If I may say it, this is the “new NSX”

 By: cazalea : March 16th, 2020-07:56
It’s a car I would really like to drive but probably not want to own. I looked at maybe leasing, but it was 10x as much/month as my Fiat 500e, which was plenty of fun. The BMW though is dramatic in such a futuristic way! Sadly they only sold about 100/mon...

Forgive me but I have to disagree.

IMHO NSX is much more special than i8. better in many ways. Even the new NSX could not replace the charisma of original NSX.

Thanks, Clueless. [nt]

Do you like yours? Has it been reliable? How many miles do you have?

I'm not sure I'd want to own a super complex BMW like this out of warranty, but it is SUPER COOL.

I’ve own my i8 since Sep 2015, now 13.5k miles.

Yes, very low because my work is only few miles from home. It’s been reliable except for the annoying “Check Engine” light which in my case was gas getting into the engine oil. It has happened 5-6 times already, like every 6 months. Dealer has no permanen...

The permanent engineering solution has been offered

Run the engine longer so it gets warm enough to evaporate unburned fuel that washes down the cylinder walls. BMW knows this issue well, having suffered great expense in their V8s forcing them to replace many engines. Those are not unnecessary trips - they...

That’s very good to know...

I thought I did by driving to downtown Portland which is about 20-30 miles each way for dining or shopping every 2 weeks, Ok, I’ll go further next time since there’s nothing to shop or dine for the time being. Thanks Mike!

Good to know! So yours is a 2016 model.

You must have a lot of stop and go trips for such frequent tire replacement. Furthermore, Michelin's PS4 and AS3+ have mileage warranties, I don't know about Pirellis. I hope you're not changing the tires at the dealership. Go to Americas Tire, have them ...

You’re right I drive short distances and tires are soft, didn’t get time to warm up and cool again The rear goes quick because of all the torque and weight. The Michelin’s are stock and I’m changing to Pirelli on this 3rd set so I’ll see how it works as c...

German made, impressively sophisticated, curiously underrated, and a slammin' pre-owned buy. It was already a buyer's market for these, and I suspect even better opportunities will emerge shortly. I might even buy one down the road. This car deserves its ...

It’s never been successful

Although I personally like the futuristic styling, and it’s hybrid technology, it’s never been a success, out here if you bought a house form certain developer, you would even get one for free with the house
