At high speed? On the highway? We often read that they give you an official autonomy, but when you speed, the autonomy goes down very quickly. Therefore, in France, the electric refill is not evident when you are on the road.

Rimac Nevera

 By: patrickmaniac : June 5th, 2021-04:25
Electric cars are the future. Insane….. 1914hp 2630nm 0-100km/h under 2 seconds. ...

The range is 550km and quick charging from 0-80% in 19 minutes.

 By: patrickmaniac : June 5th, 2021-08:24
But as with tech, it will improve over time. Cheers PAt

Yes, that’s why main problem of EV now are

 By: patrickmaniac : June 5th, 2021-08:34
Battery capacity and availability of charging stations. I’m not going for EV now because of the lack of charging infrastructure. But with major car manufacturers ending ICE engines and moving to EV, I guess the choice is limited. Maybe Hydrogen cars. Chee...

Imagine all the petrol stations have EV quick charging

 By: patrickmaniac : June 5th, 2021-08:49
That might be a game changer. Cheers PAt

hydrogen as in fuel cell? currently hydrogen is made using hydrocarbons (95%) so the environmental benefit is nonexistent compared to using a regular ICE

 By: Sebi : June 5th, 2021-14:23
And the infrastructure to produce at very large scales hydrogen using carbon-free electric energy is nowhere near ready in terms of TRL. Hydrogen is a nice bubble that politics like to throw around because they dont have the balls to talk nuclear héhé If ...

The charging infrastructure is rapidly improving ...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : June 5th, 2021-09:31
So is the ability of the cars to fast charge. Tesla have the best infrastructure network.

Not yet where I am.

 By: patrickmaniac : June 5th, 2021-09:34
We don’t even have Official tesla cars yet! Only parallel importers which charge an arm /leg for it. 😆. Still waiting for the model 3 to be here. Cheers PAt

Good point...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : June 5th, 2021-18:37
Extreme cold can be a disadvantage.

+1!

 By: amanico : June 5th, 2021-21:35

Bit bonkers for sure

 By: Tegis : June 5th, 2021-06:43
Still think i can have more fun in say a 911 GT3 or Cayman GT4 on most roads. Impressive what Rimac have done and cant imagine what that kinda straight line performance feels like.

Fantastic achievement by Rimac...

Pushing the envelope of what is possible.

As long a customer can pay

 By: Weems@8 : June 5th, 2021-07:40
So, what does have the majority from this?

It was the same with ...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : June 5th, 2021-07:47
Space exploration. But the benefit will be as the technology trickles down to less costly vehicles.

It remembers me of the super computer

 By: Weems@8 : June 5th, 2021-08:02
The super computer was only in use by the government. At these days a Kenyan taxi driver have a smartphone.

Maybe for once Tesla is playing catch up

 By: patrickmaniac : June 5th, 2021-08:42
Cheers PAt

Rimac ...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : June 5th, 2021-09:12
Have expanded to about 900 employees which is still relatively small, about the same size as a F1 team. They haven’t started delivering the production cars yet !

The P car company?

 By: patrickmaniac : June 5th, 2021-10:30
They just increased their stake so guess Rimac must be doing something right. Cheers PAt

I remember a dragrace

 By: Weems@8 : June 5th, 2021-07:37
A Model S with a kind of a battery package. A LaFerrari. An other car which i can not remember. Sure, the Tesla won, but the video said nothing about an empty battery or the charge level. Only who won. How many people dragrace? How many people use a car t...

Owners use these cars for long trips ...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : June 5th, 2021-07:50
It’s not difficult and very enjoyable.

Here’s a video on SF90 vs the Nevera

 By: patrickmaniac : June 5th, 2021-08:21
A drag race. The main problem with EV is the duration of battery and availability charging stations. Imagine the current petrol stations becoming EV stations. But with the start of replacing ICE engines by car manufacturers with EV, it’s going to change t...

Superb !

What will be the required ratio of charging stations to EVs if everyone is driving electric?

 By: Uncle Chico : June 5th, 2021-10:48
With petrol, it takes minutes to fill a tank thus allowing the next vehicle in the queue to tank up. To achieve a similar turn-around time with EVs, assuming improvements in charging times, use of home charging stations, and batteries that allow greater d...

That's a tough question

 By: patrickmaniac : June 5th, 2021-10:53
I Duno the exact ratio but I guess couple of it would be dependent on the car density in that area, availability and capability of the charging station? For example right now the most common charging stations where I’m at are extremely slow. You might nee...

Yes I think it would work for short trips

 By: patrickmaniac : June 5th, 2021-11:32
For me it kinda make sense as one round trip from East to west and back on the island is 100km. Good enough for 3-4 trips without charging. Cheers PAt

Exactly.

 By: amanico : June 5th, 2021-19:57

Good point but ...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : June 5th, 2021-13:11
Most people don’t do long road trips every day, especially as working practices are changing.

That’s one way of looking at it but consider this ...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : June 5th, 2021-13:05
When I leave my home the car has a full “tank” approximately 300 miles until it needs a fill up. That’s sufficient for most journeys.

EVs are impressive given how early they are in the development cycle.

 By: quattro98 : June 5th, 2021-14:36
Weight, range, and sustainability (battery and magnet production) will improve over time. A coworker has a Taycan and loves it. I think the Audi PPE platform will be very interesting.

I agree ...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : June 5th, 2021-18:41
The biggest problem for Porsche/Audi is currently no over the air updates and availability of super fast chargers.

I'm hoping we'll see an eventual niche of manual transmission electric sports cars

 By: Tim_M : June 6th, 2021-02:49
That's my only objection to electrics. They're perfect for the way 95% of people live, but involvement suffers with one-speed transmissions even on sports models. I suspect we'll eventually see a handful of manual transmission electric sports cars as auct...

Truly an impressive engineering feat!

 By: pfang56 : June 6th, 2021-06:44
But there is still something about the visceral sound and smell of a proper petrol engine which cannot be replaced. Hearing the Rimac, or the Taycan, or the Tesla - sounds like flying a spaceship! Now the below is incredible - it gets horrible gas mileage...

I think you are the devil looking over my shoulder...

 By: pfang56 : June 6th, 2021-08:05
Or perhaps the angel? Cheers, Peter

Half half... ;)

Electric Charging at petrol station

 By: patrickmaniac : June 10th, 2021-14:04
It is being implemented in Singapore. Cheers PAt ...
