After owning it for several years, he let it go for a few thousand bucks more than he had in it, just before the market shot up.
Never had a ride in it. Saw it many times at his house and upholstery shop, but nary a road trip.
I visited him right after the sale. He was bitter for two reasons: disposal was forced because he had only one garage spot and had just bought a new Cadillac, and because I never got a chance to ride in, much less drive, his piece of American history. There were high-powered American cars before like Duesenberg and Cord, but the supercharged '50 Mercury was probably the first production muscle car for the masses. And his was in never-restored mint condition.
